Default backups

Hi all, first off have to say again what a great service EUK provides, no actual problems for me whatsoever in a year, apart from the recent trouble a few weeks back on the .87 ip range, which unfortunately included my VPS, but hey i'm savvy enough to know things go wrong sometimes beyond anyones control, so i'm not fussed.

Anyway, that aside, i want to backup the accounts and mysql on my vps-01. I know i need one of the backup plans, but i'm unsure which one. Considering the vps-01 package is 15gb, i assume i need the 15gb back plan option, but i'm fairly confident i'm using nowhere near the 15gb, so could probably get away with the 5gb option.

How can i check how much space i'm curently using? Also, once i've ordered it, is it completely automated? or will i need to configure something to back up my accounts regularly?

Thanks.

The back-up space requirement depends on what you want to back up, how often you want to back up, how much your data changes form one backup to another and how long you want to keep backup for. There have been discussions on this topic previously on this forum and I am sure I have seen some calculations for the required backup storage space.

I think this post gives some idea of backup space required, however, it is quite conservative in that it assumes that all the data is going to be different in every backup. Using rsync you only back up changed files as all the others are linked back to the unchanged files in the initial backup.
