Default Can someone please clarify what we were told by your staff?

Can someone please clarify what we were told by your staff?

We are currently having constant problems with the network connection on our semi-dedicated server going down.

We have been into live chat numerous times over the last few days to try and get this sorted out.

We were informed, that the reason our server keeps going down is due to excessive ram usage.

However, one of the things that was suggested to us, was to upgrade to a dedicated server with you, that has 2GB of ram.

I cannot figure that out. If the problem is caused by too much ram usage, then changing to a dedicated server with the same amount of ram that our vps has: Guaranteed RAM 2 GB, would not fix the problem. I would also add that we have a dedicated server with another host that has 2GB of ram, has more programs running, and goes down less often than our vps with you does.

I am not having a go at eukhost (not yet anyway), but I would just like this clarified.

Edit: Just to add to this. The following is the output from the uptime and top commands in ssh:

Judging by the processes listed in that output, the server is basically sitting idle at the moment, so there is no reason why the load should be that high.

Hello,

Looking at the top command output that you have provided I do not think that your VM is sitting idle.
If you look at this:

PID USER Page Ranking NI %CPU TIME+ %MEM VIRT RES SHR S COMMAND
27777 nobody 16 0 2.0 0:56.33 1.0 145m 20m 5836 S httpd

This clearly show a httpd process that is running under a user nobody has utilized 20% of your memory... If I simplify this it will sound as, you have a PHP script on your website that is badly hit and eating up your memory.

Can you please let us know the ticket ID so that we can have a look at your server. We can then decide if you really need a dedicated server.

I do not currently have a ticket open for this, as it was all done via live chat, the last of which was with NickG. I can PM you the logon details for the server though if you want to take a look.

The problem is that we are losing customers due to the server going down far too often. We have had two customers cancel their service citing reliability as the reason.

Semi Dedicated server is not a fully private dedicated server that you own yourself. Semi dedicated server is a separate account on the server that is shared only between 6 clients. Semi-dedicated hosting accounts are setup on a powerful Dual Quad Core Intel Xeon E5420 processors. The servers is having 12 GB DDR2 RAM which ensures that each semi-dedicated account hosted on the server gets at least 2 GB of Guaranteed RAM.

In case of Dedicated Server you will have total control of the server and you can use all the resources of the server. The 2 GB of RAM on Dedicated Server will be for your websites only and it wont be shared with anyone. I would recommend you to go with a Dedicated Server as you will get much better performance on it.

Hi Craig,

One of our senior system admin has optimized your semi-dedicated server and things have changed completely. Load average is below 0.1 and you have more than 80% memory free.

Cool

Upgrading the cPanel to the EDGE version makes it consume least amount of resources.

I had a similar problem a while back. A few things got optimised and the load and RAM usage dropped massively. With cPanel VPS Optimized, it will help even further.
