Unhappy Chown on VPS

Anybody having trouble with SSH? I needed to change ownership on a lot of folders and files, so I logged in to SSH and tried to chown recursive the folders and files, it looked at first to be working but when the screen stopped scrolling I could see permission denied after each line.
I sent a ticket to VPS Hosting support asking why I could not chown through SSH. They answered they would do it for me, I said OK, but please tell me why I can not do it myself as I signed up for VPS Hosting to have full control of my website hosting. I got no answer to that, but they did chown my files and folders, only problem was they chowned them all back to what I did not want
At the moment I am still waiting for my files to be chowned as I want them, this would take only minutes if I was able to do myself.

Thumbs up

Hello ,
Yes, definitely as you are having root access so you should be able to change everything.
You can change the ownership for the main folder using “chown owner1.owner2 foldername -R”. “R” will change the ownership for all files and folders recursively.
We have already done it for you, also replied to your ticket.
You should not get any error if you are using proper method. But, no problem just get back to us with the exact error you are getting, we will do it for you.

I generally do stuff like this through Virtuozzo although I know you can do it through SSH. I just like to be able to see everything on the one screen unlike all the command stuff in SSH.

Providing you are logged in as the root user, you should be experiencing no problems.
