Could support check my VPS config please?
I've spent quite a few hours mangling on my new VPS now.
I have to say how happy I am to be here... what a good move!
Do you think someone from support would have the time to check my server config? I'm very new at this and would like a check to ensure I've not made any gaffs, security wise etc.
Cheers
Eddy

Hello Eddy,
We have checked the configuration of your VPS and all looks fine. We have also installed CSF Firewall, Chmod the dangerous files to root only, disable the dangerous PHP functions and secured "/tmp" on your VPS.

That's brilliant, thanks very much!
I hope you haven't done too good a job of it tho... as I can't connect to it at all now, http, Cpanel and Web Host Manager are all unavailable.
Maybe it's rebooting?

Hello Eddy,
Everything is been setup properly, but your IP address is been blocked in the firewall because of fail ftp login attempt, due to which you were not able to access your vps.
====
217.42.115.150 # lfd: 10 (ftpd) login failures from 217.42.115.150 in the last 300 secs - Mon Jan 12 16:43:34 2009
====
We have removed your IP address and restarted the firewall, now you will be able to access everything on your VPS.

One more issue I have (for now!).
How do I prevent a directories contents being displayed in a users browser?
I'd rather it showed a 403 instead.
I'm greatful for all this handholding in this scary environment of newbie VPS management!

Ah must be a vista issue!
I'll reboot it quick... I have been using the add network place feature.
Thanks for the heads up...

You can prevent a directories contents being displayed in a users browser and have an error (403) returned instead, use the below line in your .htaccess.

You'll be fed up with me in a while tho!
When I log in as root into Web Host Manager.
I get this pop-up...
Quote:
|
The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (vpsxxxx.eukhost.com EDITED). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automatically add the entry,
|
If I let it do an auto search I get a green tick but underneath it...
An exclamation mark with
Quote:
|
Sorry, a DNS entry for vpsxxxx.eukhost.com(edited) already exists
|
Could you please help me with this too?
I'll go away soon... I promise

Hello Eddy,
You have received the pop for the hostname because your VPS is having default hostname.
Hostname is the name of your VPS and should point to your VPS Main IP. It should be FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) like "server.domain.com "or "vps.domain.com", where "domain.com" should be hosted on your VPS and the Hostname will be set from the main hardware node on which your VPS is hosted.
Let us know the hostname which you want to set for your VPS we will set it for you from the main hardware node and add the necessary dns changes.

Thanks for that Rsync
I've sent a support ticket in order to provide you with all the details.
Also, when I try to view my ticket... it says that I need to log in but it won't recognise my email address for me to do so! Bonkers....

Hi eddy,
You will need to register a separate account on our helpdesk to check status of tickets.
