Default EL105 - Update

Hello

The raid array got degraded on the Server EL105 , due to which /vz partition of the server was corrupted on the server. Now we have done a new server setup and the process of VPS restoration from the weekly backups has been started.

Is this affecting 213.175.202.50 and what are timescales? By weekly backups, does this mean any site revamps done yesterday are lost?

Hi,

Yes. Your VPS 213.175.202.50 is affected as it was hosted on EL105 node. We have restored the weekly backup we have dated 14th Feb on fresh new node. It is online and working now.

We apologise once again for any inconvenience this matter has caused.

if data is critical then it maybe an idea to start some kind of offsite backup process, alot of companies wont backup your data let alone restore it, they make your data your responsibility... least your up and running and not on a complete loss... servers/pc`s crash/break at times, its a fact of life... just have to be prepared for it...

Considering your previous post, I can't believe you said this. If it's so important, why do you not have a local (offline) backup of all your and your clients' sites.

Look at it this way. Do you back up your business data to either tape, DVD or another external disk every night, and preferably move it offsite? (I'm assuming you do, as any business which values their data should do so).

So why not arrange for a backup on another machine for both your data and your customers'. You should be able to sell those backups as added value to your clients and also cover the cost of your own data backups.

Oh, and if you're not backing up your business data, who are you going to blame when your hard disk crashes?

When we set up our VPS (212.175.202.2we took out a back up plan to back up all our sites offsite, but we were not informed that the server was going to be backed up using data that was a week old!.
I have now requested that the sites be restored from the backup plan but that is going back to Wednesday...I have still lost 3 days woth of modifications, If I had known on Sunday the data used was a week old then I could have requested a restore from the daily back up.

I feel that EUK should notify the account holders that are affected directly rather than just rely on the forum to pass information on, for instance the heading of this post 'Update EL105' I didn't know my vps was on this EL105 so it is only by chance I found it.

I have just sent a ticket in to sales enquiring about moving to a cloud... 100% uptime guarantee, I think thatis what I need now!

Would like to have some feedback from EUK though .

I look forward to a response

Best regards
Tony Lees

Hi Tony,

I apologise for not updating this thread earlier. With regards to the backups, we maintain weekly backups of all our nodes. In case of a problem with any node, we usually use the last available backup with us and restore the complete data of that particular node.

In case of emergency maintenance or problem with any of our shared servers/VPS nodes, we usually notify our clients through forum and also post regular updates. However I have taken down your suggestion about notifying the account holders individually and I will work with our support team to get this implemented.

That's right Tony, you need not worry about receiving such updates once you move to Cloud VPS as it indeed the best hosting platform for 100% uptime in a virtual environment
