Default ftp before domain is propagated

Hi

Just signed up for a VPS... and I thought DNS was complicated

I'm fairly used to working with cPanel and I understand that you can access an account before the domain name is allocated by the you.ip.address/~username

but how do you FTP to such an account??

and is there supposed to be a welcome email sent to the email address at the bottom of the form when you create a new account?? (those suckers are great when your client phones up and has forgotten how to set up their email)

I don't seem to be getting them through (if they are generated) when I put my email address...

thanks in advance

Gary

Hello

Once the account has been setup, our VPS Setup department sends welcome email to the client's registered email address. As far as the Domain is considered, DNS propagation takes about 24-48 hours to complete and reflect worldwide. This means that a few locations cannot reach the website until the process is complete. However, you can always access the website through a temp URL which is as follows :
In order to access FTP, you may use the same login as your cPanel with IP of vps.

thanks for that Alan, worked a treat....

just to clarify for anyone else, for your clients to be able to ftp to their accounts

use the IP address of your server, user and pass the same as you used to create that account

you can also use the FQDN of your VPS account as the ftp server ie ftp.yourdomain.com

still not sure about the email...

I'm talking about one that is generated when you create a client account in WHM that gives all the connection details, to pass on to the client, any ideas??

cheers

Gary

Hi Gary,
Normally you would use a billing system (or similar software) to do this. PHPCoin could do that but it doesn't allow you to automatically set up accounts on the server. Others include WHMCS and AccountLab Plus but you would have to pay for a license for these.

the client would set their own email accounts up in cpanel.. they wouldn`t use them until the domain name propagtes though as the mail will have nowhere to route too
