Default GD library

I want to install the PHP GD library on my VPS Hosting.

I tried this:

yum install up2date
up2date php-gd

It appeared to install and I then restarted apache (twice).

It didn't seem to work (phpinfo doesn't show it afterwards) even though now if I retry "up2date php-gd" it tells me it is installed.

What am I missing?

Smile Installing GD library

Simon,

Does your VPS Hosting have 'Cpanel' control panel integration ? If yes you need to click on Software, on the main screen of your WebHost Manager (WHM) interface. Click on Update Apache & select any options you require Apache to be compiled with by selecting the check box next to the option you need. Click on Start Build.

Or run '/scripts/easyapache' as root from SSH.

If you don't have Cpanel then you'd need to compile apache with php having the GD module manually, i.e. by downloading the source file (eg: php-4.4.2.tar.gz) & then recompiling it.

This can be done by RPM's too, but I'd suggest you to go for a manual recompilation, its far better & safe.

Please reply with your VPS Hosting's specific details (like OS, control panel integration, PHP version) & we'll guide you throughout the whole process.

Thank you, that worked, all sorted now.

Hello,

For a simpler explanation of this problem:

As cPanel is installed on the VPS Hosting, you can enable GD from whm itself.

----------------------------------------
Go to WHM > Update Apache > Click "Load Previous Config" (if you have that option). If you don't have that option, it means you haven't updated Apache since WHM/Cpanel installation.
----------------------------------------

Make sure that GD is checked, also make sure that "Freetype support" towards the bottom of the PHP module options is also checked.

When you've finished selecting your options, choose Start Build.

After Apache finishes rebuilding and restarts itself, you should have GD installed with Freetype Support (TrueType).
