Hi Thomas,

A Virtual Private Server or a VPS is a great alternative for those who are looking for filling the gap between shared web hosting & dedicated web hosting servers.. They bridge the gap between shared web hosting services & dedicated hosting services, giving independence from other customers of the VPS service in software terms but at less cost than a physical dedicated server alone. As a VPS runs its own copy of its operating system, customers have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, & can install almost any software that runs on the OS..

Due to their isolated nature, VPSs have become common sandboxes for possibly-insecure public services or update testing. Virtual private servers are also sometimes employed as honeypots, allowing a machine to deliberately run software with known security flaws without endangering the rest of the server.. Multiple honeypots can be quickly set up via VPSs in this fashion.

Get the reliability, control & flexibility of a dedicated server with eUKhost VPS Hosting solutions! VPS Hosting is an ideal choice for professionals & business owners in need of complete control of their web hosting along with the flexibility & freedom of dedicated server at a fraction of the cost.. VPS Hosting offers full root SSH access command line administration along with the ability to host unlimited domains, install custom software/applications, or resell hosting, etc. All VPS Hosting plans come with software packages including Apache, PHP, Perl & MySQL pre-installed. You can choose either Plesk or cPanel control panel for ease of use & management of your VPS...

Our Linux VPS Hosting solutions run on the powerful Virtuozzo virtualization platform. Virtuozzo creates multiple isolated VPSs on a single physical server which allows sharing of hardware, license fees & management effort efficiently. Each VPS performs exactly like a stand-alone server & can be rebooted independently. Virtuozzo powered VPSs offer a magnitude of higher efficiency & manageability than traditional virtualization technologies..

eUKhost's Windows VPS Hosting solutions are run via the powerful Virtuozzo virtualization platform for Windows. Each user has his/her own virtual Windows 2003 operating system to host unlimited domains, resell hosting, install own software & applications.. Windows VPS hosting offers complete Administrator control with Remote Desktop access thereby allowing a user total control over his/her VPS Hosting environment.

Windows VPS Hosting plans come with Plesk Control Panel options, allowing clients the flexibility to host & manage multiple domains & resell hosting. All Windows VPS web hosting plans include IIS 6, Virtuozzo, full Administrator RDP access, MySQL, MS SQL, MS Access databases support, ASP.NET 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 & 3.5 & Frontpage extensions along with 24x7 Support & Monitoring.

eUKhost offers Virtual Private Servers powered by Hyper-V as an alternative to it's existing range of Virtuozzo powered VPS Hosting & Dedicated Server Hosting. Hyper-V virtualization platform is quite superior to many other virtualization platforms as users get their own dedicated operating system & are completely isolated from other virtual machines on the same physical server. With the use of this new virtualization technology, users no longer have to worry about having their services affected by other resource intensive services running on the same box.

Hyper-V VPS Hosting features:-
  • Windows Server 2008 virtual machine.
  • Complete Operating System isolation.
  • Full Administrative level access via Remote Desktop.
  • Private IP Addresses
  • Guaranteed Resource levels like RAM & storage space for your usage.
Please contact our Sales Dept if you have any further queries with the VPS packages, they'd be glad assisting you

Rock: Quite a sales pitch!

thomaskramer: It really depends what you want it for and what your exact requirements are. As Rock's post explains VPS can be used for specific purposes but it pretty much feels like a physical server. It is likely to be more restrictive in terms of available hardware resource and due to its nature/technology can be potentially less secure than a dedicated server, but it is a great gap filler between shared hosting and dedicated server. I switched from shared hosting to VPS around 5 months ago and have never looked back. There were some teething issues while I got the configuration right (this would apply to any server, though), but now the server is very stable and I have not had any real issues with it. And if I do have some issues, VPS support guys are normally very quick with pointing me in the right direction.
