Default How much memory does cPanel VPS Hosting want?

I have the recommended 256mb RAM needed for cPanel, yet it still ceases to function correctly:

Exim doesn't let me recieve mail on any domans.
The damon regularly crashes.
FTP never works.

This is my third bad experience with cPanel. It's pissing me off, and I wish I could just scream!

Any ideas on the problem?

And this is a VPS Hosting which ISN'T with eUKhost.

Have you tried contacting the support team for your host and get them to identify the problem? Are you sure it is the RAM which is the problem?

Yea, I have contacted the support department. They told me to disable mailman (?), which did bugger all.

And I'm sure it's the memory, because they told me that I was running out of it.

The server could need a reboot to clear the memory or something but surly they can handle that at there end.

cPanel should work with 256MB of RAM as far as I understand it.

I've rebooted it twice. Restarted all services and everything. It just doesn't want to work!

Sounds like a serious problem them. I'd keep on to your hosts support and get them to sort it out for you or at least tell you what the problem seems to be.

I don't think that cPanel isn't working because it doesn't have enough memory in 256MB though. I'm quite sure it must be something else.

It's becomming a bit of a piss taker now. The number of times I've done a cPanel re-install... it is one of those 'head slam against desk' things (if there is such a saying). Support seems to be pretty dry at the mo, I'm sure they will pop their heads out again soon. The main thing though is that Apache is working and that website hostings are being presented.

And a reboot isnt solving the memory problems? Maybe there is something physically wrong with the server or some software or service is malfunctioning on it?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a problem with the node. The VPS Hosting itself had to be re-created the other day because it wouldn't start because of some communication problem between the CP and the node. The host itself is good overall, it's just this one VPS Hosting which has caused me nothing but problems.

Can't they transfer you to another server or something? Maybe that could solve all your problems?

Getting transferred is not an option I'm afraid. All the other UK nodes are full, the only other option would be to be moved to a US server, which is not something I want because of this being a British hosting thing. One problem with this is that it is unmanaged, which is OK for me, apart from this bloody error. I've had no problems with the other VPS Hosting.

Do you think it would be worth just ditching all the VPS Hosting and getting a reseller account?

One other thing I want to say:

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Getting a reseller account could be a possible solution. Or upgrading to a dedicated server if you can afford it and it is worth it for you. Or you could cancel the VPS Hosting that isn't working and take out a VPS Hosting with another host. Or you could pay the extra to get it a managed server rather than an unmanged (if your host offers this option).

Hopefully one of those solutions will be to your liking!!

I have been looking at getting a reseller account for a while, but I don't think it is a good idea because I require root access, and always like to know what is going on with the server. Upgrading to a dedicated server could be a possibility, if I did it would be a sh*t one, because although I have around 9 VPS Hosting, they are all dirt cheap (around £5.30 each). The host sells the servers as is and no upgrades can be purchased, except for extra IP's, meaning I can't upgrade to managed.

I seem to have dug myself a hole here with steep sides. How do I get out of it?

This just adds to my list of problems. I'm only 14, do you think that by having all these servers, I'm just digging myself a hole or what?

Well its up to you if you want to by servers or not. I recommend a VPS Hosting and if you want really good RAM and load then I recommend 512MB minimum especially if you are adding cPanel to VPS Hosting. Good luck .

And I'm slowly loosing memory...

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 256 232 23 0 0 0
-/+ buffers/cache: 232 23
Swap: 0 0 0

I have 9 of the bloody things, the rest of them work, it's just this one I've always had trouble with: whatever I do.

Thanks Ben, I'll have a look around: except I've just paid the next months invoice (o joy).

Definitely sounds like a progressive problem. I would keep getting on to your hosts support as things are only going to get worse.

Once your memory runs out you will be watching all your website hostings and your server slowly collapse and crash. Then you won't even be able to view the website hostings let alone use cPanel.

Your host must be treating this is a high priority techinical support problem - in my opinion it sounds like one that needs immidiate investigation and an efficient solution.

lol

High priority? I don't think they've heard of it: I've had no response for 2 hours, it's only a small business, I need a reply from the main CEO + CTO, he has people working on support to fix the smaller issues, he's the one that needs to sort it out.

I've already had one email from a client complaining, things are just getting worst.

Knowing my luck: I won't have a reply until the morning. I wish eUKhost did VPS Hosting like this host. I can't imagine to begin the amount of customers it would bring in.

I'm only a forum gremlin (moderator), and do not work for eUKhost in any way. Opinions expressed by me are mine only, and do not reflect those of either eUKhost or any company that may be listed above.

I don't bite, honest.

I think its time for you to change host (when your paid up time is at an end). They don't sound like they can cope with your needs (whether it is because they are not providing a good service or whether it is because they are stuggling to cope).

I can't believe that it hasn't been passed up to the most senior people already when it is a critical issue that will result in many website hostings on your VPS Hosting crashing and ultimately a lot more work for both you and them.

If I were you, I would change. It sounds like you have outgrown them!!
