Default http down for over 4 hours

I'd raised a ticket #AFY-40265-149 to get support to recompile Apache with GD enabled
rather than do it myself an possibly muck things up.

for the last 4 hours http on my vps had been down although webmail and whm are fine

i'm a little concerned that the ticket hasn't been updated , even though i've added
comments to it.

so i'm wondering if it's been forgotten about, or if there's a more serious problem.

either way i don't think it's acceptable to have my site offline for this long.

We have tried to enable GD support on your vps by re-compiling php using easyapache process but cPanel itself is having some errors. It will take some time as we have forwarded your issue to cPanel engineers for further investigation.

We will get back to you in the ticket or here as soon as we have any updates from them. We are sorry for the delay.

it's still down after 18 hours

and now i can't even get into whm as it complains about an unactivated license file

i find it hard to believe that apache couldn't have been restored to it's previous state
to at least get my site back up.

in the past i'd commented on how impressed i was with the support

but i'm sorry to say i'm not now.

Hi Chris Alner,

I have fix all the issues of your VPS and recompile Apache with GD enabled and updated in your ticket.

You were getting the error of "unactivated license file", because I am working on your issue and made few changes.

Now everything is working fine. Please check and verify everything from your end and if there any problem, please update accordingly in your ticket so that we can assist you accordingly.

i've updated the ticket , but copied here

Quote:
you appear to have re-installed cpanel

this has lost all the configuration of lfd spamd etc

and now rather than running at around 50 - 60% memory usage it's at 80 - 90%

this means that i will now have to spend the next few days checking what is and isn't configured correctly and sorting it

so i'm not impressed at all.
i'm extremely annoyed that something that should have been straightforward has turned into a disaster

Hello Chris Alner,

We have investigated deeply on your OLD VPS and OLD VPS was got corrupted because of 32Bit RPMS was forcefully installed on your 64bit VPS and because of this cPanel installation of your VPS get corrupted.
We have tried all the possibilities to solve this, also checked this with cPanel engineers, but the architecture of VPS get corrupted and recreation of the VPS was only an option left and same option was also suggested by cPanel engineers. So, we have created a new VPS and installed cPanel on it and copied all the data to new VPS.
Regarding resource usages of your VPS, please let us know from where you were checking the resources, as everything seems to be working fine and normal on your new VPS.
Regarding LFD Firewall, we have installed on your new VPS and configured all the rules same as you were having on your old VPS also, if you have done any other customize settings please let us know we will do those setting too on your new VPS.

the big problem now is that i have to go through all my records of settings that have been changed to work out what's missing, and i really don't have time for it as i have a full time job
and just look after the website in my spare time.

just looking at whm i can see that spamd and httpd now don't appear in the service status screen, so they aren't being monitored.

spam emails are now getting through , where before they were blocked , or marked as spam

logging into webmail now gives me options for horde and roundcube, where i'd disabled these before

i'd also be interested to know what 32 bit rpms were forcefully installed, as these would have been installed by EUKhost support

at the moment i'm getting server not found errors from my Nildram adsl connection at work, and i've had reports of the same problem for users of Virgin cable broadband (although restarting the dns server seems to have fixed this, so may need to add that to the list of monitored stuff)

Hello Chris Alner,

You have request us to compile GD modules and our tech tried to compile GD module using cPanel scripts and to enable this module there is no need to install any RPM manually, we haven't installed any RPM on your VPS.
At the time of recompilation of php with apache to enable GD, our tech faced a problem and they have forwarded this issue to cPanel Engineers for further investigation. CPanel Engineers investigated into this issue and they found that this problem persists because of 32bit rpms installed on your 64bit vps and they suggested that we reinstall the VPS. For better data protection, and to avoid more miss-configuration, we have created a new VPS, migrated all the cPanel accounts and the data to a new VPS.
Also, we have enabled the monitoring of httpd, LFD and SPAMD. Now you will be able to see it in the service status screen.
We have checked your site [url=http://www.peugeot-gti.net and it is is working fine at our end. We have attached the screen shot in your ticket. Please go through it and let us know if you have any other problems.

Hello,

As John told you that we haven't installed any RPM on your VPS as we don't even login into a VPS without customer’s permissions (if customer doesn't contact us regarding any problem). So, we don’t have any clue regarding this.

the last thing that was done would have been the upgrade to vps optimised cpanel
which was done by support , but they had problems and had to call in the cpanel engineers then,
this is most likely what's caused the problem we've seen this time.

i don't install any rpms etc myself as i prefer to get it done by support
which is why i was asking which one had caused the problem
