Default Hyper-V VSP or semi-dedicated

Hi,

After a horrendous experience at pipeten, I'm looking to move all of my websites from their shared servers to a new account on a Windows server at eukhost.

My priority is stability and a flawless back-up facility. My budget is in the range of a VPS or a semi-dedicated, but I can't stretch to a full dedicated I don't think.

I already have a VPS at Eukhost, which was troublesome to begin with (my domains kept going down because of lack of resources) but I was eventually moved to a better node and (touch wood) it's been fantastic since.

Bearing in mind that I need maximum stability (i.e. fast loading websites and maximum possible uptime) and a flawless back-up service, what would be better - a hyper-v- VPS or a semi-dedicated?

I guess the main thing is making sure I get put on a good node where other users aren't battering all the resources, as that has made a massive difference with the VPS I have.

Thoughts/experiences appreciated!

Thanks all...

Hello,

Both are good options, but definitely Hyper-V will provide you better stability and performance because it is a hardware Virtualization. So you get dedicated resources with it, it works as a Dedicated sever and it is not possible for us to take backups of Hyper-V VPSes. You can schedule backups from your VPS control panels on our remote backup servers. We will help you to configure it.

Where we uses Virtuozzo technology which is a software Virtualization method on Semi-dedicated hardware nodes. Here you gets Virtuozzo Power panel to manage your VPS services, backups, stats and other VPS related options. Also we takes weekly backups for all our Semi-dedicated hardware nodes.

Well, we keeps 40% of free resources on all our semi-dedicated and Hyper-V hardware nodes, because it is recommended by SwSoft and Microsoft respectively. Both packages are having high configurations, so we create less number of VPS on every node.

Hmm... so Hyper-V in theory will provide a more reliable service (i.e. not affected by other users) but you don't take ANY back-ups of these, so the back-ups are entirely my responsibility. A semi-dedicated may perform poorly if another user on the node hogs all resources, but you take back-ups of these to supplement my own back-ups?

It's a tough call. It would be nice to know that I've got a fail safe of your back-ups though if mine fail.

Am I right in saying the set up of a semi-dedicated is just the same as a VPS but with fewer accounts per node?

Thanks

We are working on Hype-V backup solution (Currently we use Snapshots but they are not too reliable) but still you will have to take a copy of the backup as the backup which we will take will be of complete VM and it's not possible to restore single files OR folder from that backup and the backup will restore the complete VM to previous stage (when backup was taken).

Yes, that’s correct we have separate Server to host Semi-dedicated server where we host only few accounts.
