It is possible something similar is happening here, either with your router at home or somewhere on the Virgin network.
If everyone posts what make and model their router is, maybe we can find some common factor.

Recently changed my router and the problem hasn't gone away - so I doubt it is the router. Suspect your right about it being something in the Virgin network.

I think it's best that this topic is stuck.
If multiple users are reporting similar problems - it's important to get the issue fixed.

seems like your router has certain limits on uploads. seems like Virgin uses LAN technology as this is the biggest problem with LAN technology used by ISP's.
They have no issues with downloads, but high speed uploads creates problem for their servers and they block your http as well as ftp access temporarily. I prefer ISP's using DSL technology for same reason.
We can help only if ping stops working, there's nothing else that can be done from our end if reboot of router solves such problem.

Yes, Virgin Media do block your internet if you hit your upload limit - but they kill your entire connection. During these outages, we are only unable to access the eUKhost network. This problem doesn't just happen when using FTP (although sometimes it does) - sometimes it just happens randomly, so I believe this isn't to do with the Virgin Media upload policy - due to the fact that only the EuroConnex network is blocked, and no other provider.

first we need to find out if its really our network which is creating problems for customers on Virgin broadband. Earlier we had problems with Tiscali and traceroute reports proved that something was going wrong in routing process. We switched our network to other carrier and tiscali problem got rectified immediately.
We've not received any proof so far which would find our network to be at fault. You are able to ping your website when you face such outage and there is no reason why ftp and http would fail while ping and ssh continues to work. if there is a problem on our end then your full access should get blocked and not just ftp or http.

SSH only works if you have a session open during the time of the outage. If you don't have an SSH window open before it goes down, it wont let you connect.

your open session should get terminated if there's any network problem from our end. network problem should block your access completely and you should not manage to connect even after rebooting your router. if router reboot solves it then there's something on your end and nothing to do with euroconnex network. Virgin seems to have some settings to prevent high speed uploads.

Yes, although it just happened again - and I wasn't uploading any data.
I was unable to access my server, the eukhost website, the poundhost website, the bluesquare website, or any other eUK website. Yes, Virgin Media have settings to prevent high speed uploads - but they block your entire internet, not just the EuroConnex network :P
So I believe the problem lies between the Virgin Media router and the eUKhost router, where somewhere along the line, some data packets (possibly only TCP packets) are getting lost.

As I sated before, some of our users (Virgin Customers) have similar issues, They cannot connect to our site on a regular basis, if they can connect , the pages sometimes hang before fully loading.
This has been going on for some time now and the strange thing is, if they have problems on our site, they can usually access other sites on the web.
The co-owner of our site ( Virgin Customer) often messages me saying he can not connect to the site, can i do something? I have to reply to him that as it does not happen to me ( Non Virgin Customer) I cannot find a fault when I cannot see a problem

Same issue
I'm getting the same issues aswell with Virgin.
There seems to be no pattern to it at all throughout the day.
This morning I changed to using a proxy and could connect via virgin, but at the moment I can't by using the same proxy. The standard proxy is 195.188.152.14:8080 for VM.
For me this is not working at the moment, but my resolver is, but is painfully slow.
Trace's and ping return good results for me. 9 or 10 hops, with 20 ms time.
I haven't hit any upload or download limit with VM, and are on the 20Mb service.
regards
Steve

From what people have posted here, there is evidently a problem which isn't to do with upload limits (as we weren't uploading at the time, and some of us have a 20mpbs service, so reaching the upload limit is very difficult).
Surely eUKhost are able to liase with Virgin Media to try and find the fault?

I have just changed my MTU setting from 1500 to 1492 and things seem to be running smoother.
Worth a try, although I dont hold out much hope.
regards
Steve
Update, Also read on some other forums about changing the DNS values to OPENDNS,
Do a google for opendns with VM, or look on the cable forums website

It's not a DNS issue as when these outages occur, it is not possible to access the services via IP either. MTU 1492 is designed for PPPoE broadband - which Virgin Media is not based on.

Ah well, worth a try
I remeber sometime back having the same issue with N*L and spend much time trying to resolve it. Then one day everything worked as it should, this went on for 6 months or so. I never got an answer from both parties involved.

I need some traceroute reports from customers involved in this thread who have good technical knowledge.
please download tcptraceroute software from TCP Traceroute : Goheer.com and provide us with traceroute logs when you face such outage on Virgin network.

Tried that - looks like it has problems with XP (SP2)
Looking at the website - it looks like it is just the same as a tracert

Yup, XP SP2 blocks raw sockets - I'm trying to find a work around.

Right.
Firstly, install WinPcap.
When you have installed this, download tracetcp from here: SourceForge.net: tracetcp
Copy the tracetcp exe file into the system32 folder, and then from the command prompt type "tracetcp IP-Goes-Here".
This will provide a TCP traceroute which works with XP
