Mail server host name in greeting on VPS

Can someone confirm whether it's possible or not to fix the problem with the domain name greeting if multiple domains is hosted on a shared IP? And if it is: how it's done?

This is on a Linux VPS Hosting with cpanel and exim as MTA.

hostname of your server / VPS Hosting will be seen in headers of the emails you send from your Server / VPS Hosting. There's no way to change this to have respective domain name in header but sender and reply-to fields wont show the hostname. It will show respective email address only.

You can change the hostname through cPanel - although I don't know whether it covers all programs. You can try running the following command:

hostname mail.yourdomain.com

Do that via SSH, and it should take effect via all system programs (e.g. exim) but should not affect cPanel.

In VPS Hosting you can't set the hostname from the shell of the VPS Hosting as it need to be done from the Main Server on which your VPS Hosting is hosted, otherwise the hostname will automatically change to default after reboot.

After you change the hostname of your VPS Hosting using the method given by "flesso" then send a mail to <a href="http://www.eukhost.com/vps-...a>@eukhost.com stating the new hostname so that we can update it on the Main server.
