This looks very interesting - any progress on this?

It's still being sorted out as far as I understand but it is coming! You don't want to be messing up this kind of thing. Lol.

our new stock of E5420's has arrived and we will start first RSYNC process for all Linux nodes on Saturday and Sunday. Email notification will be sent once our new Mirroring nodes make full backup of all existing nodes.

Servers will get synced every night. Our CRO and VPS Team will perform some tests before we notify all customers about this mirroring solution that will be available for all VPS and semi-dedicated hosting nodes.

So if there would be a problem with server 1, would dns be changed and set to server 2 while server 1 was fixed?

I presume it'll be a routing change, not a DNS change. It's better that way

If one node fails, then we will manually route IPs of that node to the mirroring node. There will be downtime of 5 - 10 minutes in this process, but we will be able to avoid outages which occur due to Hardware failure or anything else that can result in long outage.

if RSYNC scripts are scheduled to run at 3 AM and node goes down at 2 AM then you will have 23 hours old data on the second server which will take over.

Would it be possible to get databases to sync every 12 hours?

I will ask our CRO to write some shell scripts which will RSYNC /var/lib/mysql/ of each active VE every 2 hours. This can be easily done and I don't think that this would increase any load on the mirroring nodes. If any VE uses too much of /var/lib/mysql/ space then we will add him to the ignore list
