Default Optimising VPS for specific application

Hi,

I have a VPS with yourself s but can honestly say I have no idea about servers so it's just as well it's a managed service.

My question is though, do you provide a service where you will tailor my VPS to obtain optimal performance to run one specific application?

I know this probably wont be included with normal support but was wondering if you offered this as a paid service.

It's not that I'm having problems with my VPS, well apart from it being down a number of times, it's just that I would like to ensure I'm getting the best performance possible out of it.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Please provide us the name of the application you wish to run on your VPS so we can assist you further with this.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the response.

It is CS Cart ecommerce software and 1 Wordpress bold that I have on the server.
Some info can be found at cs-cart.com. I imagine it's database usage that will have the biggest impact on site performance but I don't really have a clue

Just would really like to have the VPS set up as good as possible to run CS Cart.

I have seen some posts on their forum about server settings but can't find them now, typical LOL
I'll have another look to see if I can find out any details.

Hi again,

Have found some forum posts on CS Cart web site so just going to past them here:-

1) On the server itself, I set the php.ini to 256mb, and matched it in the config file of cs-cart

2) On the server, I had a dedicated server guru look at the DNS resolver. (/etc/resolv.conf) and set a higher priority. This alone eliminated 7 seconds off the load time, and the site went from 10-13+ seconds of "First Page" load, to just over 4 seconds.

3) Used the Minify, gZip and compression functions of the SmartOptimizer utility from this post in the forum. (Second post by babalucci) This had the second largest impact on performance, reducing another 2+ seconds from load time.

4) Server side tweaking and apache/cache optimization

I have implimented options 1 and 3 put please let me know if you think these could lead to any problems on my L-VPS-1 package.

Thanks again.

John

Hi John,

I just got a confirmation from our VPS support team, suggestion numbers 1 & 3 which you have implemented won't lead to any problems on your VPS. They would only boost the performance of the application hosted.
