Default Possible move from VPS to Semi-dedicated

Hi,

I have had my Windows VPS Hosting for a few weeks now and must say I'm overall impressed with the service and support.

I am currently developing a new version of my website hosting (SQL Server Express backend) for release in about 2 months. After some heavy promotion I am expecting high traffic on the web site hosting when it goes live but after monitoring current resources on the VPS Hosting for current traffic am a bit concerned that high traffic will cause problems with only 512mb RAM.

I am now considering upgrading to a semi-dedicated server as the dedicated 2GB RAM will give me a lot more confidence that everything will run smoothly if the web site hosting is as successful and well used as I hope it will be!

Could someone please give me a breakdown of how a move to a semi-dedicated server would take place including down time, steps taken by EUKhost and steps required by me. I assume new IPs would be assigned so I'd have to update my private nameservers with these?

I am not looking to do this change for at least a month but would like to know all the details beofre I make any decisions.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom

If you have Plesk control panel with your windows VPS Hosting then it will be easier to move data from windows VPS Hosting to semi-dedicated server.

Following steps will be involved in migration.

1) We will create Windows Semi-dedicated server with new IP(s).
2) We will move your data to new account.
3) Now name servers ip needs to be changed by you at domain registrar end. (Normally this takes 24-48 hours. Depend on ISP).
4) Your VPS Hosting will be up till name servers get updated. No downtime for website hostings.
5) Finally you will provide us confirmation to stop old VPS Hosting.

That's it. I hope this will clear the questions you have in your mind

Hi,

I am now nearly at the stage to migrate to a semi-dedicated server.

The only problem I see is with database changes during the name server change (some may point to the old server and some to the new).

Can I copy everything to the new server apart from the database then point the new server to the old server's IP for the db connection. When I am satisfied that everything is working OK I can copy the db to the new server.

Is this the best method ?

Thanks,

Tom

Yes, you can keep and run databases from your OLD VPS Hosting till you are happy with the new server performance.

Hello Tom,

Glad that you are happy with your VPS Hosting. While the upgradation is being done, your VPS Hosting as well as the semi-dedicated server will be functional together. So in case you have dynamic content which tend to be updated (including emails, db's etc.) you can still copy them over from the VPS Hosting to the semi-dedicated server. If you can, you might also want to shut down your DB's during the actual process of migration so as to save on the effort of wanting to copy it over. We can schedule the migration during the night to facilitate this.

The old VPS Hosting would be kept functional for about one week from the time your semi-dedicated server is functional. This would allow you ample time to verify all data and functionalities.
