Default server monitoring

Hi,
Just wanted to clarify a few details about server monitoring.

We signed up for a managed semi-dedicated server. This was because hosting is not our main business, it's a supporting business to our others so we are not able to actively monitor our own servers 365/24/7.

We also have a EUKHost server monitor account, which I understood was also linked to the support teams monitoring system so proactive action would be taken if needed.

With this in place I believed I could go away for a few days, or be in meetings, off the radar so to say and rest assured everything would be sorted in the event of server crashes, overloads, hacker getting in etc.

Today I couldn't log into WHM and when I did eventually get in I discovered a server load of 11.0 and immediately contacted online chat. My VPS was rebooted and it was confirmed that the load was another user on the main server and would be sorted asap. Excellent support, however, I asked...

Before I go, just to check....if I was away for the day, is this something which you get notified of even if a vps owner doesn't notice?
operator: if there is load on your VPS
operator: you will get notified by WHM
me: If it was a problem, would I then have to contact you about it before it was solved? (Just checking because I thought they were managed)
operator: yes
operator: you can contact us
me: Ok, thanks for your help. I thought when I signed up to managed hosting that you were monitoring the servers 365/24/7. So if I was on holiday or away I would not have to worry.
operator:
operator: You are welcome

This is not a fully managed server.
Since I joined Eukhost I've had to actively monitor my server otherwise noone else is. When I got a hacker etc nothing was done until I noticed it and raised the alarm.

Could you please clarify how the server is managed?

Hi Simon,

We monitor client servers on request. Some customers use remote monitoring service, so we don't add all VPS's / Semi-dedicated servers in our monitoring system. Our main hardware nodes are monitored all the time and staff members get notified if any VPS / Semi-dedicated server goes down. They will login and restart your VPS / Semi-dedicated server if it goes down completely.

I have asked our VPS Team to add your server in our internal monitoring system and they will be notified if any specific service goes down on your Semi-dedicated server.

Hi Mark,
Can you get them to add
Plan: Linux Semi-Dedicated Hosting

I have just had to send ticket as the server is down for the second time in 4 days. Last time was over 3 hours and my client was not happy. I reccommened EUKhost as i have my dedicated server with you. Sorry to say this semi is not working out too well though.
