Default Shared SSL

Hi,

I've just got a new eUK Windows VPS Hosting and I'm in the process of transferring sites over.

One of them is a small internal DB for a company that currently uses a shared SSL (to keep info secure) and I've been trying to find information on this forum on how to setup the shared SSL with the eUK configuration.

Unfortunately, 'SSL' is too short a phrase for the forum search box and my eyes have gone square searching posts. so I'm hoping someone can give me a quick 'how to' to set this one web site hosting up with shared SSL (this is an internal DB app so having the warning about the certificate is fine - they don't need the extra expense of a dedicated SSL/IP).

Thanks in advance ...

Paul

I believe Shared SSL is setup using the hostname of the server.

Try this:

Windows :
https://SERVER-NAME.eukhost.com/domain_co_uk/

Linux :
https://SERVER-NAME.eukhost.com/~USERNAME/

Replace SERVER-NAME and USERNAME/domain_co_uk with your servername and username/domain respectively :P

Do not remove the "~" from the 2nd URL.

I'm not sure the post above applies as I think that's for shared Linux hosting not a Windows VPS Hosting. I would think somewhere in the control panel you would be able to create a self signed certificate but I will have to leave that to some Windows person to answer.

You could always google SSL in Plesk or something like that or if it's urgent, go on Livechat and they should be able to help.

Thanks guys - that pointed me in the right direction.

With a bit of playing it turns out to be pretty simple - just turn on SSL support for the site, then go into web directories and make sure 'require SSL' is turned on for the directories you want to protect.

this then uses the default Plesk certificate (with the warnings).

Obviously this can only be done for one domain if you're sharing an IP address - but solves my problem!
