Default VPS Hosting :: I am a noob.

Hey people, i am 17 and i am currently studying ICT at a local college. I run a gaming clan website hosting www.imgoingin.co.uk , I currently purchased a VPS Hosting package with eukhost and after a little e-mail problem we got the ball rolling, however i did a dumb ass thing of changing the hostname without really knowing what it was, hopefully eukhost can resolve this.

My knowledge of VPS Hosting's is a little scarce, i am only really familiar with the cPanel side of things. I went with a VPS Hosting because im sick and tired of shared hosting and was also looking to provide some hosting for friends whom do a lot of photography.

Perhaps someone could point me in the right direction of a newbies guide to WHM or something along those lines, i am not a complete idiot, but i am more of a do then think as oppose to think then do, hence the reason i b0rked the VPS Hosting withing an hour of sorting it out. This is probably fixable through SSH but i am not too sure how to do that.

EDIT: I also said i had my own domain, of which i do, i have about 5, the once i selected to use is currently register with 123reg, i am not entirely sure if i have directed it right, i changed the name servers to ns1.n-91.co.uk and ns2.n-91.co.uk this is the domain i own, then i added the 2 IP's i got provided from my VPS Hosting, i am not entirely sure if this is correct. If not, anyone care to correct me, once again sorry for any hassle i have and most likely am going to cause in the future, mind you next week im at college and my tutor knows plenty about this so he should be able to help me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Danny

I think im in way over my head here, i have sussed the general idea of how WHM works.

However...

1. The hostname, is the the domain which everything thats related to my VPS Hosting will be pointing and used as such as the namserver, my mail etc? If so, how do i get a domain thats hosted by 123reg to act as a hostname for my VPS Hosting?

Hello Danny,

If you point nameservers to your VPS Hosting then the hostnames entry on your domain will automatically get added. If you get popup for the first time then click on "add A entry for the hostname" and that will setup A record for your hostname.

Hostname's A record will have problems only if you forward A records fo your domain from some other location hosting your DNS. As you have said that your DNS will be hosted on your VPS Hosting only then you should have no problems.
