VPS Hosting newbie
is there a step by step guide to setting up a VPS Hosting ?
i've just purchased a Linux CPanel L- VPS Hosting-01 VPS Hosting and am struggling to sort out the initial configuration.
my website hosting is currently on shared hosting in the states.
i'm familiar with setting up sites on shared hosting, and used to manage a reseller account
on a dedicated server,
but i can't figure out how to do even simple things, like add a MySQL Server database, using WHM
and i'm totally confused by the nameserver settings,
i'd just expected to point the domain at eukhosts name servers (like i did for my shared hosting)
i've tried using the knowledgebase etc, but can't find anything that explains things.
any help appreciated

MySQL databases can only be setup on the cPanel accounts themselves; unless you access PhpMyAdmin and use the MySQL root user to make the database (although not reccomended).

Hello Chris,
You should use WHM just to setup new hosting accounts from the "Account Functions" section. You can then login in cpanel of respective hosting accounts and then configure mailboxes, MySQL databases, FTP users, Fantastico and so on.
I hope your confusion gets sorted now

to help people get set up.

Hello,
Best idea refer the following detail documentation of WHM/cPanel.
You can get the flash tutorial on WHM/cPanel which helps you to understand WHM/cPanel.
Enjoy

Hi Chris,
First off, do you have a domain your domain through eUKhost? If so, pop on to livechat and ask them to set up two private nameservers on your domain. The problem you are having is because although eUKhost provide you with a VPS Hosting, you will need to set up your own nameservers as they don't provide anything like ns1.eukhost.com etc. for you. It's not a big deal though as you can use your own domain for yours.
Once you've done that, you should then be able to add nameservers from the left hand menu of WHM. That should then get you up and running. If you want any more help, shout on here otherwise I would suggest going on livechat with the VPS Hosting team as they are excellent for support.
Moving from reseller to VPS Hosting can be a big step up but it does allow you so much more control over things. I did the move fairly recently myself so if you do have any more questions feel free to drop me a PM or add me on msn.

i have a (few) domains registered through ukreg,
but until i'm ready to move stuff from the shared hosting it's on, i can't point it at the VPS Hosting
and i'm loathe to move it completely from ukreg as i i like to keep all my domains registered in one place.
so, as far as i'm aware this means i can't use that domain as a nameserver.

You might be able to get support to set up the DNS on the current server for the nameservers to point to your new server. I would ask them about that...

You should be able to setup other nameservers on your domain.
You need to register your nameservers with your domain registrar - if you wish to keep your nameservers pointing to the old server before everything is transferred, you can setup a tertiary and fourth nameservers.
For example: ns3.uk1dns.com and ns4.uk1dns.com.
When you have set these up with your domain register, you'll be able to configure them from WHM.

Hello Chris,
If possible, please come on livechat from http://support.eukhost.com . You can directly start a new chat with our VPS Hosting Team and get everything configured from them or you can message me on MSN and I will help you with initial setup.
We had policy of assigning 2 nameservers to all VPS Hosting customers on our domain, unfortunately this policy was changed without my approval. I will get this sorted for you and you wont face any problem once we take you through this initial configuration settings.
