Default VPS Node - File System Errors

Dear Valued Customers,

One of our VPS Hosting nodes in the IP range 91.186.25.* has come up with file system errors. We are still investigating this even as I write in. Further updates will be posted as soon as we have developments. Thank you for your patience.

Hello,

We are proceeding with an OS reload now. We have the latest backup available. So data is completely safe.

Is this affecting the 91.186.29.* subnet as well?

Hello,

Unfortunately, yours is one of the very few in the 91.186.29.* which has been affected.

Hello Iain,

Unfortunately, we cannot commit to an ETA at this time. There were file system problems because of which we are doing the OS reinstall. We will be carrying out a thorough check. We also realise that this is affecting business as its happened at the start of the week and during morning business hours. We reger the inconvenience being caused.

Dear Customers,

The node is now online. Virtuozzo service has been restarted. The OS errors have all been resolved. There is no loss of data. We thank you all for your immense patience.

Hello Everyone,

The node has once again gone into Read-Only mode. We are right now trying to ascertain the root cause of this relapse. As always, this thread will be updated with further progress. We once again regret the inconvenience.

Nick,

I'm assuming you still have to restore the backup after the file checks are complete. Just worried as my website hosting is currently one from several months ago, half my customers are missing their sites (all the newer ones) and one of my customers is complaining that each time your server comes back up she is getting 55 old emails flooding her mailbox.

Just slightly concerned here, please reassure me that the last backup you have is not from March 2008.

Guys, what the hell have you done to my server!!!????

Still running the backup from March what was that about no data loss? Any why is internet explorer barring me from logging into your live support saying it's a potentially unsafe site.

*sigh*

Alan has now sorted the issue, he blamed it on my cache, not entirely sure how accurate this information is as I could not access from any browsers on any computers, and it was my customers that alerted me to the situation.... suddenly after returning from having a cigarette he asked me to open a new browser and check again and it all worked.

Still not happy, a simple notification from yourselves to all affected would have been in order.

Hello,

We had faced a problem earlier yesterday with this VPS Hosting node and had resolved all the file system issues which were there. The node was functioning normally for a while before it relapsed and started coming up with the same problems.

The forum was being updated regularly. This was done to keep all customers updated on the progress being achieved. In cases such as these, we can never be quite sure about the time it would take for the FSCK to finish. Sometimes, it finishes in thirty minutes and at other times, it takes hours. This situation makes it difficult to assess the exact time frame.

This whole saga has cost me a great deal of business over the week. Sunday afternoons are normally buoyant trade, obviously not today.

Load on my Dedicated Server has been high much of the week, with these problems dragging me away from my holiday.

When can we expect this issue to be resolved properly?

I know how you feel.... it's starting to look like I've lost 14 hours worth of work which needs to be finished by 8am tomorrow for an exhibition.

That'll be fun, maybe I should start coding on my local machine then uploading to the server.... might be a little safer, especially with the current state of this server.

Just had some news back - sounds like the HD is dead. Nice.

Looks like we will lose a day's data and it will take hours more to even get that up. What I don't understand is why this whole thing wasn't ringing alarm bells earlier on in the week when the server was on its knees.

We are going to migrate all the VPS Hostinges hosted of this server to a new one. It's a brand new server with Intel Xeon E5420- 2.50GHz Quad Core (8-CPU) and 12GB of RAM. We are still able to read the data from Current server.

We will keep you posted about the progress.
