Default VPS questions

Hi
I have just become the proud but nervous owner of a VPS . I have use VPS servers before but never had root access. I got sick of trying to get the admin (a one man band) to resolve somw of my issues. So I desided to make the plunge and go with you big boys and girls

But as you may have guessed by now, I'm a lil green behind the hosting ears. I run some bike websites that do get quite busy some times. So I need to keep them on a fast server hence the VPS.

I have a few questions to ask. Please bear with me if their not hard to answer, but to me unless you've done it a few times it's hard and confusing. so if you are good enough to answer please try to keep it in laymans terms thanks.

My first question is
When I orderd my VPS I also bought a domain name jchosting.co.uk from 123-reg
I got it with the intension of using it for the main VPS account thinking that when I orderd the VPS account it would ask me what domain name I would like to use. But it didnt.
So at the moment to log on to my WHM I have to typr the IP address along with the :2086 code. Is there any way I can set it up so I can just use the domain name i have just bought? If so laymans terms please peeps.

My second question is
I have set up a package from the WHM and added an Account (I had a lil help from the suport team, thanks suppport team) but i was well chuffed with my self.
When i set it up it gave me all the info I needed to get to it using an IP
+===================================+

I pointed the domain name I want to use, from the control panel at 123-reg to the above name servers and its bee a good few hours now but the domainname is dead.
Do I have to set anything else in the WHM to tell it that the site is in my server if you know what I mean?

Thats it for now. fingers X I'll know what your telling me to do when / if you can help.

Generally a main domains is needed so we can set hostname for the vps. If 'jchosting.co.uk' is the domain, the hostname can be set as 'vps.jchosting.co.uk' & you can access your WHM with http://vps.jchosting.co.uk:2086. You can simply add jchosting.co.uk from your WHM & set the hostname.

It seems the nameservers that you using for the domain nwbikersforum.co.uk are incorrect. Please check the correct nameservers in your welcome email & point your domains to those nameservers.

Hello Jonathon,

ns4262.ukvpshosting.com and ns4263.ukvpshosting.com are the correct nameservers for your VPS. Make sure you point all the domains to these nameservers.

Default Still some problems :(

Ok
Thanks for your advice so far. But I'm still strugling.
Up to now I've got jchosting.co.uk to work setting the name server to ns4262.ukvpshosting.com & ns4263.ukvpshosting.com has worked for my route access to the server (including the :2086)

But I'm still having no luck getting to the the account I made called nwbikersforum.co.uk
I've tried setting the name server to ns4262.ukvpshosting.com & ns4263.ukvpshosting.com
but it just comes up with conection error please retype the web address.
So I tried setting it to NameServer1: ns2034.ukvpshosting.com ns2035.ukvpshosting.com
but still no joy.
I know the site is working because I can get to it via the ip 78.129.171.142 and also the cpanel. hell I even uploaded the site usiing Cute FTP so it can be all bad. it just the issue with resolving either the name server or theres a setting I've missed in the inital set up of ither the root account of the server or the account I made to host that site on?

Any body with any ideas plese feel free to comment.

thanks
JC

Hello,

The nameservers ns2034.ukvpshosting.com & ns2035.ukvpshosting.com are not the correct nameservers for your vps. The correct nameservers are ns4262.ukvpshosting.com & ns4263.ukvpshosting.com. It seems you are facing problem pointing your domain nwbikersforum.co.uk to the correct nameservers from your domain registrar.

I request you to open a support ticket on our helpdesk regarding this issue.

I have checked the DNS for our site "nwbikersforum.co.uk" and currently following are the nameservers assigned at the registrar,
====
ns2034.ukvpshosting.com. ['91.186.0.XX'] (NO GLUE) [TTL=172800]
ns2035.ukvpshosting.com. ['91.186.0.XX'] (NO GLUE) [TTL=172800]
====
The above nameservers are not correct, due to which your site "nwbikersforum.co.uk" is not working.

You have to use the following nameservers which is pointing to your VPS IP address and it’s provided by Philips earlier,
====
ns4262.ukvpshosting.com >> 78.129.171.XX
ns4263.ukvpshosting.com >> 78.129.171.XX
====
Once you changed the nameserver for "nwbikersforum.co.uk" at registrar end pointing to correct nameserver, your site start working fine with domain name.

Thanks Scott
But I hate pestering ppl with trivial questions. So I figured if I use the forum I may learn what to do for my self and take the load off the Help team at the same time. Although If I'm in a rush I'll raise a ticket
