Which is the best Linux distribution?
What do you think is the best Linux distribution? I've always used CentOS, but am currently trying out Mandriva as a workstation.

You forgot to include Debian. I am lifetime fan of CentOS but I've seen many people using Debian as well. We have CentOS on all our Linux Servers but we were using Fedora before 3 years. Slowly we migrated all those servers to CentOS and I hope that CentOS continues to grow and improve in future.

I prefer Fedora Core or Redhat to CentOS - but I'm pretty much happy sticking with CentOS atm.

At the end of the day, I suppose it's down to compatibility. I've noticed I can't install a lot of things for CentOS, where they have been available for Redhat and Fedora.

I haven't used other Linux distributions except CentOS. I'll have to go with CentOS because its the only Linux distribution I have used.

It all comes down to what your requirements and your personal preferences are. Each distribution has its own advantage(s) over others. Having said that CentOS is a good one for both desktop and server use although it's developed primarily as a server OS.

Yep. CentOS rocks
some of our dedicated server customers prefer Debian so I would consider Debian as No. 2 after CentOS but thats just my opinion as I've rarely worked on Debian OS.

An article I read today suggested Ubuntu to be the best version of Linux to use for a server although the article does admit it has got downfalls in the fact that it is hard to use and setup initially.
Has anyone had any experience of this?

Well, I can't say I've had much play with any linux really, but I have Ubuntu and I've never had any problems with it. When my hard drive died in my laptop last year, I ran the Ubuntu live CD and used a 1Gb memory stick as a hard drive. Worked really well. Before that I've used a dual boot system and I always found Ubuntu to be very easy to use but I wasn't doing much command line stuff. Server wise, I'll leave to someone else to comment!

Sounds like a good system to use then, at least in a desktop computer. Maybe someone from eUKhost or someone with experience of servers can shed some light on how good Ubuntu is as a server OS?

I'm surprised noone's mentioned SUSE, I've always quite liked it over ubuntu and its incarnates. OpenSuse has a very good community for advice, problem solving etc.
