Default delegating a subdomain

Guys,

How would i go about delegating the subdomain marketing.emailconsult.co.uk to one of our suppliers?

Server runs BIND 9

Thanks

You first need to setup the nameservers for the sub-domain.

Once done, you would have to open the db.domain zone file on the name-server (this is for the main site).

In there, first - add a nameserver resource record for each NS of the subdomain.

Then put in "A" records for the NS listed in the nameserver's records.

Once you have done this restart the name server with /usr/sbin/sig_named restart

This would reload the NAMED databases.

ok, so let me ensure i have this thoroughly understood

To create a subdomain - just do this through CPANEL?

then modify the config file to work with my suppliers details?
The supplier has there side of things working so it is just our server that is causing a issue

I only have one question
How do i set up the A NS records

You can simply add a DNS zone for this subdomain from your WHM from http://Server-IP:2086/scripts2/adddns

Make sure that you put marketing.emailconsult.co.uk where it wants the domain name and the IP of the destination server where this subdomain needs to be pointed.

If you have added the subdomain from cpanel then edit its DNZ zone from http://server-ip:2086/scripts/editdnslist and point its A record to the other company server by removing your servers IP.

Nope. A record has to point to an IP address only. NS Records will point to nameservers.

A record can never have anything besides an IP address.

You can have other hostnames contained within A records, instead of IP addresses.

Ok, I have spoken to our provider again, and this is the outcome of what we need to happen for the marketing.clickconsult.co.uk subdomain

we need the SOA record to point to the ns0.xxxxxx.com name server - and have its ns*.xxxxxx.com nameservers as NS records

help - i understand the basics of A records, MX records and NS records - but this is just way over my head
