Exclamation FTP Problems

I'm not sure if anyone can throw any light on the following problem :-

On Wednesday / Thursday we had horrendous problems with clients not being able to access their sites. It looked like DNS errors as our off-site monitoring was reporting "host not found errors". I reported it and have a number of live chat and ticket conversation with support who said the server is up and everything is fine, followed by you need to contact the ISP in question to get it sorted. (Not very practical as Host Tracker was reporting failures to find our main site in 70% of its testing stations !!)

Anyway next day everything was fine again.

Now to my main problem, we have a piece of software that copies a file via FTP to a folder on our server. I wrote this code in Delphi 5 years ago and it hasn't changed since it just works 364 days a year. I've had it working on shared hosting, VPS, semi-dedicated and now our dedicated server. Since the problems of Wednesday this software fails to connect but does not error, nothing is sent to the server.

I've done a test this morning to our temporary support domain on Godaddy and again it just works.

Any ideas?

At the moment my only solution is to move the clients domain (and ecommerce site) away to another host to solve this issue. I don't want to do this as apart of this last glitch everything at EUKHost is great.

Hi Martin,

Apologies for the delayed reply. There's a good possibility that the server you have with us is either blocking the FTP connection from your local network, or the router sitting in the DC is.. etc, we might need this to be investigated properly. Meanwhile could you please check if you can telnet to the server's port 21 (FTP port)? Also, could you please open up a support ticket or provide us with more info here [Ticket ID, etc] so we can have this checked & sorted out ASAP..

Hi Rock,

Thanks for the reply. The ticket number was : BKT-72067-179

I can Telnet to the server on port 21 fine, I know our IP address white-listed in the firewall settings.

We can now get round the problem with this client by changing our software to access this domain via their dedicated IP address. Not perfect but a solution.

Last night I also received an email from another client saying they could not ftp from within Dreamweaver. We use but Cuteftp and Filezilla all the time and have had no problems. I need to do some more tests on this today but wonder whether its related

Thanks again for any help.

As a follow-up, Dreamweaver connects fine from here but I now have two clients at two different locations saying that they cannot connect to their domains via Dreamweaver.

All this has happened since the problems with our servers last week.

I think the only solution we currently have is to move this client to a different host/server.

Unless anyone has any better ideas?

Hi Martin,

There might be a possibility that the IP's are blocked on the server. I suggest you to reply the ticket BKT-72067-179 with the list of your client IP's. Once we receive your reply, we will check as to what the issue is all about & what can be done to resolve it.

Hi,

I've updated the ticket with the IP address from the client.

The client who has about 6 hosting accounts with us is getting very jumpy and we may need to move the site now
