Default Hotmail Users Dont Recieve Emails

Hi

Ive tried to resolve this via chat support and email but have had no joy. I was first told that rDNS wasnt set up correctly but had been amended. This was over 48 hours ago and this issue still is not resolved.. I have emailed support again yesterday and today, my last email has not received a reply.

Could someone take a look at this for me please, I have 10-20 Hotmail users on average signing up a day and they have not been receiving activation emails... I have had to remove email activation on my site, which causes other issues for me, as I suspect this is also affecting AOL users.

(just to confirm) This issue has only occured since I moved my site to the new server last weekend.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

To begin with, have you got rDNS (reverse DNS) entries setup for any IP(s) that you have assigned to your server, or the server that you are using to send your emails out with? I ask this since Hotmail and AOL will not accept any email from mail servers that don't have any rDNS entries.

Yes as stated above, rDNS wasnt set up correctly the first time round but this was suppost to have been amended and corrected a couple of days ago.

Hi,

Do you mind if I take a look at your rDNS from my end?

rDNS does sound like the main culprit. You can check if the rDNS is setup by using a tool from AOL at http://postmaster.aol.com/tools/rdns.html.

You can post the IPs here, no problems in that.. Hotmail frequently updates their email policies, hence this can be a reason too. Some IPs are blacklisted by certain SPAM engines [SpamHaus, SpamCop, etc], if this is the case, Hotmail won't allow relaying the emails through their servers. Plus, there are some other reasons too...
Hence everything can be made clear once the server IPs are posted here, we can definitely find a solution to this weird problem..

Hi, thanks Rock

The main server IP: **
The IP for the site in question: **r

The strange thing is that one of the helpdesk guys tested it another way and says that the email was received in a hotmail account, I guess this only seems to be occuring when the email is generated in Vbulletin using the PHP function? (I might be way off)

Thanks for the help, I hope we can get this sorted.

DNS Server Response:
core.alienexotics.com

Success! It appears you have Reverse DNS.

Is this the hostname of your server? If not, it needs to be set to the hostname

Yeah, I had already done rDNS checks.

However, I may have had some sucsess, there is an option to send emails with the -f paramiter in Vbulletin (whatever the -f paramiter is) and while this wasnt needed on my last server this may have solved the issue as some hotmail users are repotring that emails are now being recieved. I will test further and confirm shortly.

Have you got SPF records for your domain name?
