Default I've Found The Bug It's EAccerlator

We have got a very busy site that according to Netcraft is the 6713 busiest site on the www. Anyway our dedicated server would fall over 3 or 4 times a day as soon as people started posting.

So I thought it must be something to do with the last cPanel upgrade to 11.25. I downgraded to 11.24 and tried all sorts of things including getting the techie people to have a look, AlexP and Christiano to no avail, give them their due they tried all sorts of things to try and get the server to behave.

Anyway I had a look on the cPanel forums and someone was having a winge about EAccerlator being full of bugs and causing lots of problems, so I recompiled using EasyApache and binned off EAccerlator. Our server has been fine since I binned it.

The one question I would ask cPanel, Why can you put RC software into your main build that's going to break lots of sites?

Hi,

It's hard for me to believe that eAccelerator was the culprit in your case Thank you for providing us with this information (fix rather), we'll definitely have this put forward with the makers of the control panel (cPanel) & have them look into this issue with priority I'm glad that the issues have been rounded up & that your server is performing well after binning/removing eAccelerator Good luck !

Hi Lance,

You may try disabling eAccelerator to check if doing so helps eliminating the load spikes which are occurring recently post cPanel update

You have to recompile Apache to do it. Dead easy takes about 10 mins per server. Ours has been rock solid since I uninstalled the program in question.

cPanel/WHM has had a new build today, but EAccelerator hasn't been updated even though it's been fixed.

#368 (hung httpd threads with high page request rates) - eAccelerator - Trac

I've found a blog post that describes how to install an older version but it looks complicated.

SolidServers.ca Blog Archive Downgrading eAccelerator – cPanel

Just checked on the Trac website and 0.9.6 has gone gold.

Update,

EasyApache has been updated to include EAccelerator 0.9.6.

Going to recompile and see how it goes.

I recompiled it about 9.30 am. It's been running fine ever since.

Looking good and the way it loads the vBulletin forum we use on the main site is really quick.

Hi John,

We're glad that you've finally managed to get eAccelerator working with Apache & about the performance of your server after that..

This vital information would definitely prove helpful for our other clients going through the same dilemma.. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us
