New Server Set Up

I just went into opendns.com

There are 3 options for server (Bind, dnscache and IPcop firewall) Which would it be for this server?

Hi John,
I think I've confused you here. I don't mean for you to change anything on the server (as I don't think there is anything wrong there) I mean for you to change it at home on your computer or router. From this page

https://www.opendns.com/start

choose either the computer or router option depending which one you use to connect to the net. Once you've configured it, flush your DNS again and see if it sorts it.

That seems to have done the trick, the site is as it should be, I pinged it and it has the right ip address this time.

Hopefully it will stay like that this time.

Just to point out, all you've done there is cut the Tiscali DNS servers out of the equation so it seems there is some issue with their DNS. You might want to pass this onto their support so they can try and get the issue resolved in case you have any other people trying to access your site who use Tiscali.

I'll try and tell them, I sent them 3 emails within the past couple of days without reply.

While I was in the router admin, I rebooted it, so I don't know if it is that which has solved the problem, because, I have just changed the settings back fron the opendns ones to the tiscali ones, and the site is still showing for me.

That could be if you haven't flushed the DNS cache on your computer. If it's still being odd today I would definitely tell Tiscali as it's a really odd thing to be happening...

Tiscali have the worst resolver cache, sometimes it takes days to update.. even up to a week at one point.

I switched to BT a while ago because of this

Before I went to bed last night, I changed the dns back to the default. Lo and behold, when I got up today, I was back at the old host, so I changed again and I can see and work on the site.
I was too busy today to spend an hour or so on the tiscali support line, but I will call them tomorrow.
