Default Is it perfectly normal for a EUKHOST semi dedicated to be offline for over 2 hours

This has happening for nearly every day ever since I got the hosting.

My business relies on this server. Even if the server is offline for 10 minutes it could cripple me.

I have been using EUK for a few years now and decided to get semi dedicated hosting. But I can't afford the hosting any more as I am losing out on revenue.

Why the hell does this keep happening? I cannot get a straight answer from the support staff.

Do I have to physically visit the data centre in Maidenhead to find out what is going on?

Ok I am getting worried now as the "Senior System Administrator" has seen this thread as well.

I just wanna rectify the problem and prevent it from happening again.

A friend of mine had a dedicated server with you guys who he had no trouble with. I thought it would pretty much be the same with a semi dedicated?

C'mon guys your support has been excellent up until now!

Hi Rishil,

There's absolutely nothing wrong with your Semi Dedicated Server. uptime stats show that your server has been up for more than 3 days and there's no information in logs which would show any sort of downtime or reason for downtime.

Are you sure you are not getting blocked by a firewall on your server ? Also let me know if you are using Virgin broadband service as some of our Virgin users are facing frequent packet loss and outage due to some unknown peering problem with Virgin.

Appreciate the response!

How do I check if I am blocked by a firewall on the server?

I am on Virgin broadband but I had a couple of friends, one from the USA and one from The Netherlands try to access the web site hosting that is on my Dedicated Server and they could not load up anything.

Also I use a real time visitor counter to track one of my website hosting and it shows proof of the down time when it had happened. I've checked the times and it's exactly the same times as my Dedicated Server is down.

Here is a screenshot:-

Thumbs up Hey

Hi Rishil,

You can check blocked IPs in /etc/csf/csf.deny file.
If you wish, we will remove blocked IPs for you and then you can ask your friends to access the site.

I have reconfigured CSF firewall and also opened a ticket for you "SVW-50000-258".

Hi there.

I am pushing high amounts of traffic to a web site hosting on the server, which I rely on. I am guessing CSF the firewall was automatically blocking IPs. Is there any reason why it is doing this by it self?

Sebastian has modified CSF firewall rules on your server. CSF needs to be upgraded as and when they release new updates. I'm quite sure that things will look perfect from your end after this CSF firewall updates and modifications. You are hosted on a high specification node with very few semi-dedicated hosting customers on the main hardware node.

That's great to hear that there is a solution.

I was told by the sales staff that the semi dedicated was capable of handling high traffic on a web site hosting running on wordpress before I went through with the purchase.

Could this factor be interlinked?

Once again thanks for the positive response!

I doubt the high traffic should be causing that kind of a problem on a semi-ded.

CSF does need to be kept up to date though and hopefully these changes will sort it.

Oh dear ... looks like it's gone down again.

I had even updated CSF myself as it said in WHM that it was not updated earlier.

Hello Rishil,

I am able to access the WHM for your semi-dedicated server. I could not login and give you a screenshot as I dont have the password. There is no problem with your VM. The http procees was stuck once again. The support team has updated your ticket with the reasons.

I woudl request you to update your ticket rather than the forum. This is because you would then be able to get faster responses. A forum is a place where a healthy exchange of views can be sought and we would like to keep it just like that. Thank you.
