Default Problems with Migration from VPS to DEDICATED

Hello,

Recently we upgraded from VPS to Dedicated Server.
We did this on advice of UKHOST team that sent us an email with the guarantee that we would have 0 downtime:
"Migrations will be carried out at free of cost by our Dedicated Server
support team and we will ensure 0 downtime if you request our team to migrate your VPS. We can also migrate IPs of the customers who have ordered a VPS with us in last 18 months."

On the 3rd of March we subscribed the Dedicated Server, and on the 4th of March we asked the migration from the VPS to the Dedicated Server. This can be confirmed with the invoices and ticket nº LNT-88749-970 which were opened with EUKHOST.

Unfortunatelly the migration wasnt suceeded, and today (9th of March) we still have sites which are DOWN. 5 days after the start of the migration!!!

Yesterday we spoke on online CHAT with Matt, from EUKHOST Sales Team, regarding this issue:
General Info
Chat start time Mar 8, 2010 1:27:27 PM EST
Chat end time Mar 8, 2010 2:11:52 PM EST
Duration (actual chatting time) 00:44:24
Operator Matt
Ricardo Lopes: Matt... I will send this chat to my email. And even your "promise" is different from the 0 downtime from EUKHOST email, I will accept it with 2 notices:
Matt: Sure
Ricardo Lopes: 1) Since we subscribed Dedicated Server on 3rd of March and we will get VPS migrated to it only at the end of today (8th of March), you have to extend the next due date to the 8th of March 2011;
Ricardo Lopes: 2) If we dont get all problems solved until the next 5 hours, we will ask for the change to the Cloud without discussion.
Matt: Yes
Matt: We will change the due date to 8th March 2011
Matt: and will get it sorted in 5 hours

Its been already 13 hours and the ticket continues NOT CLOSED and NOT SOLVED.
We continue to have sites DOWN, which gets us in a difficult situation towards our clients. This can get our enterprise to close doors because of defficient service.
This is a situation which is far from being acceptable!

So, for now, we asked EUKHOST to cancel Dedicated Server and upgrade our normal VPS to a Cloud VPS: VMware VPS 03 - Windows.
Lets see if it gets solved ASAP... I will be bringing here more info about this.

Best Regards,
Ricardo Lopes

Hi Ricardo,

Gabriel from Windows Department has replied to the tickets (LNT-88749-970 and JVZ-82414-982) with an explanation on the cause of your websites being inaccessible. All the domains were migrated on to the new dedicated server by Keane but some of them were not functioning which was due to database connection failure. This has now been fixed by Gabriel and all the domains are resolving fine from the dedicated server.

Default Now Dedicated Server is Down for 9 hours!

It gets better and better! Now Dedicated Server is down for 9 hours!!!
Shouldn't it be 100% uptime secure?

Im starting to be pissed of with EUKHOST.
It seems to me we will only get the service we are paying for if we start with Legal Action against EUKHOST.

Default More info

So that no one gets telling us this was because we changed something on our Dedicated Server, here it goes:

We received an email from Raymond at 00h13m:

------ Forwarded Message From: "windows@eukhost.com" <windows@eukhost.com> Reply-To: "windows@eukhost.com" <windows@eukhost.com> Date: Wed, 10 Mar 2010 00:13:37 +0000 To: Ricardo Lopes <r.lopes@punchline.pt> Subject: [ #KLR-21392-532]: IP address Hello Ricardo, This has been resolved now. The IP address is being showed as a shared IP address. Plesk now shows the "IP address distributed as Shared". Please feel free to contact us, if you need any further assistance in this regards. We would be glad to assist you. Regards, Raymond ------ End of Forwarded Message

Then, at 00h17m we started to receive emails from WATCH Reports of EUKHOST:

Hello,

As far as I can tell the alerts you are receiving are due to a problem with our monitoring system, rather than a problem with your server.

Please don't open multiple tickets/threads about the same issue, as it makes it very difficult for us to solve your issues, especially since your multiple tickets are not guaranteed to be worked on by the same support agent.

Someone from the Windows Team will update you shortly with an explanation for any problems you have experienced.

Sorry... I think this message gets against the opinion that the only problem is around the Monitoring Tool.

Recently, we migrated to a VPS with similar specs to our old dedicated server, but notice frequent problems running out of memory, mysql having to restart, etc... both when knowingly running intensive scrips and also just randomly during normal use.

A VPS with similar specs to a dedicated server should perform approximately the same, but in order to get good performance, you still need to tune Apache, MySQL & any other long-lived server processes. In my experience, the out-of-the-box configuration of Apache in many Linux distributions is not ideal & will allow far too many child processes, over committing memory & sending the server into a swap-death spiral..
