The reason I think I should is because they used to use it at work and people always used to say that it did a good job. But I was always under the impression you could only get a trial and that everyone had to pay - didnt know there was a full free version. Obviously I expect it will have less features but I just want a basic filter that gets the job done.

I have noticed the PDF Spam is taking into stake too, the spammers are apparently mixing up PDF spam with Image Spam and send through attachment, any novice can be easily targeted.

Apart of MailWasher & spamassain and all do you recommend for greylisting? I found worldpay is using greylisting, it is the method to "temporarily reject" any email from a sender it does not recognize. If the mail is legitimate, the originating server will try again to send it later" Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greylisting

Thats a very good idea - so much so I would also implement it if there was any software that or module that could do this. Unfortunately I imagine it will only be Pro and paid for versions that will allow such a complex and advanced techniques to be used

I've given up on Microsoft Exchange and have moved to Linux and set up Sendmail with SpamAssassin. I have Norton Internet Security so that blocks most of my spam on my Outlook these days.

Most people normally give up with Windows eventually from what I have seen and people have told me.
I went with Linux from the start because it seems to be a lot more stable and problem free - plus the fact I didn't need any Microsoft dependant modules or scripting language.
Do tell us how you get on with Linux .

I've used Sendmail many times before as my mail server, I must say that you can't fault it - it works fine for me. I switched because I was origionally using Exchange's OWA interface, but started using Outlook so webmail became unnecessary - so I've switched to Linux. It's working fine for me at the moment.

Yeah, I think greylisting will especially best perform when it is combined with other forms of spam prevention that you said earlier.

I does seem an ingenious idea - wish I had a way of implementing it - It would save me having to read a lot of pointless emails!!

To prevent spam and to get anti-virus protection on the server I'm going to move to Zimbra Open Source colab suite. I've been messing around with the demo and it seems to be one of the best open source group suites around. And yes, it is for Linux (which is even better).
