I don't like GMail or GoogleApps - GoogleApps is crap (wouldn't receieve any mail for my domain) and GMail just has way to much spam.

Possibly both ways, Zimbra developers need to sit with Gmail developers and fix the issues. I sincerely agree with flesso about Gmail spam.

I would use GoogleApps but it has been a pain setting up. It won't let me connect using POP3 (yes, I have enabled it in the account preferences interface). It's also a pain to add those numerous MX records required. I do have a GMail account but don't use it because of the sheer amount of spam which it gets. I'm sticking with my email account where all the bills and crap get sent to (still spam there though) and my Windows Live Mail account (no spam!). I hope to make the switch to Zimbra soon - it has all the anti-virus and anti-spam crap already built in.

Gmail does have far too much spam for my liking as well but as it detects 99.9% of it in my case and puts it in the spam folder I just click "delete all" in the spam folder so it isn't really too much of a problem for me.

The only occasion you will find me using my gmail account is if my server is not working or I somehow cannot retreive my email.
I agree about the spam issue with gmail - I believe google to be distributing gmail addresses to spam corps, because ive created a numerous amount of email addresses on gmail, without giving them to anyone, 7 days later they all have spam messages in the spam box.

I have several gmail accounts and some have been set up for 2 years that I have not given the address to anybody and I have not had a single spam message in it.
The email addresses of mine that seem to have been targeted are the easier shorter ones rather than the more complicated longer ones. I think a lot of it is guess work by spammers - it costs them very little to send out billions of emails so they can afford to use such tactics.

The spam may be easy to clear, but the fact is that the spam box quickly fills up again. My average is 500 over 2 days - it gets very annoying and that is the reason why I hate GMail.

Yes, but it is just as easy to clear one spam email in Gmail as it is to clear 1000 - its still only one button press. Plus the spambox doesn't count towards your total space which is good.

Why not use your spam box for general use then?

Heres something I never though I would say: I miss Microsoft Exchange Server. Sad as it is, I just miss being able to check my email on my mobile.
