ViewingWebsite Hosting Without Domain
Hi,
Kinda new to website hostings... I'm writing one for my business, and I'm just starting getting it working on the webhosting account I have here.
Problem is that we're not ready to forward the domain from it's current host to here until we're sure it's working...
My question is... is there a way of viewing the website hosting without having the domain forwarded???
if so... what would be the url???
I would appreciate any help you can give...
Kind Regards,
DiGiT

You can view your website hosting by using the shared ip you got in your welcome email with "/~username/" on the end where "username" is your cpanel username.
Hope that helps .

As usual....
A problem solved results in a problem gained!!
I'm using it correctly... atleast I think I am...
http://87.117.201.106/~digitgod/index.html
that should take me direct to the index.html that is in the httpdocs folder correct???
well it doesn't seem to be doing that... I just keep getting page unavailable...
is there something obvious I'm missing???

Have you put your index file in your "public_html" directory?
If not, try that and then try and look at your website hosting again!
Hope that helps .

your account is hosted on windows server so the temporary URL will be different. You can see your website hosting from the website hosting preview section in the control panel.
If you need temporary URL to be setup for remote access then you can request our windows team to setup one for you.

Ah right, I thought the temp URL was the same for all no matter what server you were on.
Oh well, at least you can get one set up if needs be from support digitgod!

That does make sense...
I presume opening a ticket is the most efficient way to get a temporary url setup?
I will send one in now...
still waiting for you guys to look into the MS SQL Server issues... Not to sound pushy but I have been waiting a while...

Yes, opening a ticket with Windows support will be the easiest way to get your temporary URL set up.

DPS,
you seem to have been around here awhile.... is it normal for a support ticket to be left for 4 hours without a reply???
I sent it in at 7pm and it's now 11:40, and I've had to chase it by phone twice.
I only signed up today and it's not looking good so far to be honest...
your input would be appreciated.

I have indeed been around here a while (on the forum) and even longer as a customer.
I can honestly say that there would seem to be something wrong as a wait that long is unheard of. Even at the most busiest times I have had my tickets responded to within the hour - or at least aknowledged by a member of support to say it is being looked into.
If the ticket seems to have failed I would suggest opening another one - that type of wait is very unusual and surprises me.
Please don't hesitate to ask me more questions or seek more advice - I know how it is being new!!
I can understand that having only just signed up that this doesn't look good but as I have said I have never heard of such a long wait.

basically even plesk is saying that noone has access to the databases I create...
I can't login into the MSSQL server either.... I sent the log in, nothing for 2 hours so I rang, got hung up on as soon as they picked up (although this may well be a genuine fault on their part as it happpened on the next call too), so I rang again, and he said he would get someone to look into it and update the ticket in 15-20minutes...
I gave it about 45 and rang back... this time he kept me on the phone while he seemed to speak to someone else. He then said they were looking into now (and I even verified with him that he did actually say that they are dealing with it Now).
That was about 40minutes ago... and still nothing.
I personally work as a computer programmer, in an industry where an hour can mean the difference between making £million or not (that's not an exaggeration by the way, the online insurance industry).
I know this is no where near as critical, it's only a small gallery website hosting I've written from scratch, but I would atleast like some acknowledge to say that someone is looking into, I shouldn't need to keep chasing this.
Do you think that this is a 1 off? Should it be reported to the company?

Jack is replying to your ticket right now. We don't reply to tickets unless they are fixed so you should not expect "we will get back to you soon" replies from us. it was a complicated problem and it took some time for us to fix your problem.

That's good to know,
Thanks for the reply, I would have more expected after the ticket not being able to be fixed in the first couple of hours, for a quick message to say, we're looking into this issue, and it is complicated. Or atleast words to that effect, 4 hours (actually 5 now) is pretty bad as I'm sure you'll agree.
I'm not trying to be awkward here, if the problem is fixed then I'm happy. I Just wanted you to know what the customer experience was like from this and, hopefully, help you make the service better.
I look forward to receiving Jacks reply momentarily.

Hi Martin (DiGiTGOD),
87.117.201.106 is having Plesk control panel installed on it. The control panel provides an in-built option called as 'Site Preview' for viewing the website hosting before the DNS are changed.

Well, we seem to be getting somewhere now... thank you for your help DPS and Jack...
I'm not saying it's all sorted, but they're looking into... which all I needed.
Oh and it wasn't entirely they're fault... I think microsoft has to take part of the blame!

Just so that everyone knows....
Everything has been sorted... and I'm quite happy now...
all those who are new and trying to access eurofighter SQL... remove the \SQLEXPRESS part... and add your user via your control panel software...
and if you read up... you'll see who to preview your website hosting on a windows server when you haven't got a domain forwarded...
Kind Regards,
DiGiT

Hi DiGiT,
Glad to know that your issues are sorted out
The '\SQLEXPRESS' part is required while accessing the SQL Server DB's through ASP scripts or for the connection strings.
Anyways, I liked the background of your website hosting, especially the glow. http://87.117.201.106/$sitepreview/rockyoke.com/ I hope it rocks
