Default Curious??

A couple of days ago Plesk went down on Kingair, I notified support and plest was backup in no time - excellent. However, I noticed today that one of my sites which uses ASP had configuration errors. So I check the connection string for the database and lo-and behold it was the old string from when my site was hosted on Eurofighter (yes they are subtly different). My movement from eurofighter to kingair was well documented on this forum and you'll all know that that happened several weeks ago. Obviously a backup was needed after whatever problem there was with Plesk the other day - but why would a backup be made from weeks ago, and from a source that wasn't even on the kingair server? (the connection string in question was altered within minutes of arriving at kingair, so is several weeks old). Have backups not been made on kingair as per agreement?
I'd love to know.

Please allow me some time to have a word with all Senior Windows System Admins. not sure what went wrong and why they had to restore such old backup.

I will update this thread tomorrow.

It could just be a simple mistake or misunderstanding. I am sure they will be able to sort this for you as backups are made quite regularly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you .

Hello,

Wish you a good morning! We do have backups configured on King-Air & indeed on all our servers. We are checking out things. As Mark said, we would be able to come up with an update a little later today.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello,

I have had a follow-up done on this. We have a backup scheduled for 01.00 AM GMT everyday. As for the account itself, we found 8 domains in there & all these 8 domains have been moved to KingAir from eurofighter.

The main domain name for your reseller account was not found in the old server & so was not migrated to KingAir as well. The other two domains for which there were issues - Jack, Alfred & William had worked on it & replied to your ticket, after which you had confirmed that everything is fine.

There was no backup restoration work done on KingAir since the server has been online. If there (was) is a problem. please let me know about it. I will have this checked completely. You may email me directly or raise a support ticket & give me the ticket number. I will have this checked once again for you.

Thank you

The main domain 'kebe.biz', I no longer use, so that's why it wasn't present when domains where transferred from Eurofighter.

All I know is, that a file that had been altered weeks ago, reverted to an old version for no apparent reason. This is a connection string, so isn't something I wouldn't have noticed because without it, the site simply wouldn't function - and indeed that's how I noticed that it was reverted, the site suddenly broke.

It's an odd occurrence it seems, but this file was changed somehow and not by me.

Hello,

I will once again have this checked on both the servers. I would be able to give an update in a few hours.

OK, I've done some digging myself. I accessed the file which had 'broken' yesterday using ftp.mafa.org.uk (that's the domain where the problem was highlighted, and the corrected file allowed the site to render once more. I have since accessed this domain via 91.186.30.8 and as you rightly suggest, this file hadn't been altered since October the 3rd!!! So where is ftp pointing towards? It looks like when you (support) transferred my sites across to kingair, the dns records in plesk weren't corrected and still point to eurofighter, even though my domain nameservers are pointing to kingair, the site is now being rendered at eurofighter. (I had noticed a dip in performance on this site). Presumably this will be the case for all of my domains that where transferred a month ago?

I shall alter the NS records in the DNS area of Plesk to point to win9/win10 rather than 7/8 as they are now, and see if that rectifies the problem.

I have confirmed my findings in a support ticket #LTX-88606-860

We were about to make that change ourselves. However I have asked my support team to leave the DNS untouched for you.

Thank you.

Thanks, I have made all changes and hope this will solve this issue. It looks like we were both right in the end lol. It hurts my head to think why it would be rendering at kingair then suddenly switch to eurofighter, but then the connection string on eurofighter was correct for that server so the site still should have worked. Its almost as if the two site where sharing some files... see? Brain hurting!!

Anyway - I'll inform support that they can drop the eurofighter content now, and delete all. Good job I waited this long, just in case there was anything that might go wrong with the migration

Actually, we had not shut down eurofighter at all all these days. The box was on even though the sites were moved. My personal opinion on this is that maybe the because of eurofighter was on full service, the connection string error was not noticed. We should have changed the A record though. Thats the reason why the sites would have been responding slower than normal.

This however has helped us to take care of one more aspect of moving sites. So we would like to thank you for having highlighted this for us. It helped us learn to have all domain pointer records checked on the new server.

Thank you

Thanks for the thanks One problem I have now noticed - this my be simply a propagation issue, but interesting non-the less. It would appear that my site was pointing and rendering the old domain, but now that I have corrected the ns records, changes to the site don't take affect. No changes are apparent when I alter a file on the old (eurofighter) site or on the kingair site - Viewng through a proxy browser does show the change, but not any subsequent changes!! The domain is in limbo. Hopefully this will sort itself out in a day or so (yes, I've flushed dns lol)

[EDIT]: after a bit of proxy-browser research I can see that the site is pointing to Kingair. So its a propagation issue

This is a propogation issue for sure. We have cross-verified twice on the server & Plesk. All records have been updated.
