Default e-mail fault in subdomain

I've done a search but found nothing particularly close to my problem so am starting a new thread. apologies if this is common problem!

I've set up a sub domain for one of my clients, but the e-mail just will not work! I have used both auto setup and manual in OE and thunderbird all failed

the main domain justwe.co.uk is fine no problems but the subdomain churchcourt.justwe.co.uk will not work, test e-mail is wendz@churchcourt.justwe.co.uk error is host ........ could not be found
Socket error 11004 Error no 0x800CCC0D

All guidance welcome!!

Thanks

Quinn

Hi,

You receive the "host not found" error message because either the sub-domain 'churchcourt.justwe.co.uk' isn't resolving to our server from your side OR you are using the incorrect SMTP and POP3 servers. Please make sure you use SMTP and POP3 servers as mail.justwe.co.uk.

If the problem still persists, please initiate a Live Chat session and any of our support members will help you with those settings.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks JasonS

So obvious! the information that cpanel gives is wrong! so the auto configure is also wrong!

the config says: incoming mail server mail.churchcourt.just.co.uk
outgoing mail server mail. churchcourt.justwe.co.uk port 26

and all along it doesn't have its' own server but uses the domain!

e.g. mail.justwe.co.uk

Thank you so much, just as you posted I was going through list of things on:

(sorry another post in forum url not permitted by jc8654 in question by Curlywurly "POP Email not working - No Help from EUK")

you got there just before me!

Thank you again

Support in this forum is the best.

Should cpanel be told of the problem with sub-domain settings?

Quinn

Hi,

When a sub-domain is added, cPanel does not add a CNAME OR an A record of 'mail' for a sub-domain that is why mail.sub.domain.com do not resolve to the server. Hence you cannot use it as a SMTP and POP3 servers. If you wish to use 'mail.sub.domain.com' as a SMTP and POP3 servers, we need to manually add a CNAME OR an A record for mail.sub.domain.com in the zone file of the main domain.

And yes, we will contact cPanel to see what they have to say about these settings.

Default Thanks no further action required

Thanks for your help, I'll remove the test accounts you set up. mail.justwe.co.uk will be fine. and easier for clients!

This is a new question, should really start anew but just need small advice on SPF my ISP is sky and my partners is btconnect since we both tend to use the default ISP servers when sending mail from our homes do i need to add these urls to the a/mx or include sections?

Thanks

I thought I was reasonably bright but the spf website left me more confused that when I started!!!!
