Forwarders
Trying to setup a few forwarders, so that for example, all emails for joseph@domain.com goes to joe@domain.com - ie, if I already have the email account joe@domain.com - do I have to keep setting up email accounts for every email address that the emails are forwarding from please ? ?
Any help appreciated.
Chris.

You could set it up as the catch-all address - then all emails addresses that you haven't set up will get forewarded to it

I would suggest not setting up catch- all as it can be a major problem spam wise. I would set up forwarders from the secondary email addresses to go to the main one you are using.

JC is right. never consider catch-all as your emails will get screwed and one day you will see your email service suspended as spammers bombard catchall email accounts with thousands of error / failed messages.

We can add a new forum "JC Testimonials" and see how many threads we get over there

Combining threads from here :
Thanks jc and Mark, just to be clear :
There won't be any catch-alls
Assume you already have a one and only email account in the name of joe@domain.com
If you want to setup a forwarder so that any emails sent to joseph@domain.com would automagically get sent to Joe@domain.com - would you have to setup an email address account in the name of joesph@domain.com first ? ?
Any help appreciated.
Chris.

There's no need to setup mailbox for joesph@domain.com if you don't want copy of emails to be sent to joesph@domain.com. Forwarder will take care of forwarding all emails to Joe@domain.com, no matter if you make any mailbox or not.

Many thanks Mark, that's waht I thought you said in a previous thread, but every time I try it, I get the message :
Fatal! Write Failure: /etc/valiases/domainname.com. Ignore any messages of success this can only result in failure!
All email sent to joseph@domainname.com will now be copied to joe@domainname.com
(Ignore the last line above - it doesn't work as mentioned)
Just wondering, what happens when some of the members here try to setup a forwarder please ? Do you also get the write failure message above ? ?
Also, just to confirm, I don't want any emails to be copied over, I need them to be moved to the other emails address.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Chris,
There's some problem with permission of /etc/valiases/domainname.com. Please let me know the domain name in question and I will get this sorted for you. You can PM your domain name to me.

do you have a VPS / Dedicated Server ?
You won't manage to change permissions if your domain is hosted on a shared hosting server.
