Default How to open .gz Raw Access Files

Hi,

Having trouble opening .gz files I download from Cpanel containing the raw log data. I use 7-zip to open .gz files I get from other sites but for some reason I cannot open the ones downloaded from Cpanel.

Any suggestions anyone please? Any other free unzipping applications I can try?

Cheers

Hi Tom,

All I get is 'Can not open file 'bla...bla...bla...which is the path where it is/thecarpentersarms.biz' as archive. 'thecarpentersarms.biz' is the file name taken from the site url.

I've tried another one of my sites logs and get the same result. Strange.

Thanks

And I've just downloaded another .gz file from another site altogether and managed to open it ok.

Very strange behaviour.

Did you try WinRAR yet? It's good as well for handling multiple compressed file formats.. If the files aren't downloaded completely or they are corrupt, then any archive manager would face problems opening it. Maybe you can try re-downloading the file again from the original location..

Right,

Am I doing something wrong here?

I've just downloaded Winzip and installed it. Winzip recognises the .gz file and appears to unpack it. Unfortunately the file it unpacks is not recognised, the same response as 7-zip. However, I can open it as a text file and read the contents.

Still can't open the original file I downloaded or a re-download of that. Very funny goings on. Will see where I go with it.

Thanks for the help everyone. If I sus it properly I'll report back.

Cheers

BitZipper is also a very good option to open compressed files and folders. It is very user friendly.BitZipper acts as an archive manager and allows you to open not only Zip files but it also allows you to open 19 other popular compressed and encoded file formats.

I would also recommend Winrar.
