Default Puma Down?

It's been down for approx. 15 mins now. Any word on when it's coming up? I've noticed a LOT of downtime lately, and frankly, it's unacceptable. My Siteuptime has been coming through about once a day now, telling me the site it down, and it's right. What the hell is up with the service in the past 2/3 months?

Hello,

We are aware of the server being down. It is being worked on even as I write in. The apache webserver took up load suddenly. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Puma does seem to have gone down a heck of a lot lately. Does anyone know of a free program that alerts you to when your sites are down please ?

Thanks to Nick for the quick solution - it's appreciated, just wish they weren't going down so often really

Thanks bcc for the link, looks good and especially as it's free, have now subscribed to that service.

If you want SMS (Text message) notifications - send me a PM, and I'll send you the link to my monitoring service - I wont post it here as it'll be seen as advertising and will be unfair

I've had a word with some of our senior technical people and they have decided to move some resellers on a new server to reduce load of puma. This should be done in next 2 - 3 days as we need to give at least 24 hours prior notice to respective resellers.

Things should look perfect with puma by the end of this week.

That sounds really promising - and thanks to EUKHosting for taking this so seriously.

Will the actual changeover itself, cause any sites to go down again ?

Hi Chris,

Load may increase when we migrate few resellers as backup and migration scripts increase load of even idle servers

We will try to keep things under control as we don't want to create problems for our resellers who are on track of growth.

Many thanks Mark, hopefully this will put an end to the constant problems with Puma.

As a serious matter of interest, do you automatically time such changes for times when any negative effects are kept to a minimum - such as 3am in the morning ?

Is that why SiteUptime told me my site was down last night? Either way, I'm wondering, the service from Puma is sketchy at best at the moment, how many resellers are being hosted on there?

We will get Puma replaced by a new E5420 server on weekend. I'm not sure why we are facing so much downtime on Puma as there's absolutely nothing wrong on the server and it seems to go down without leaving any message on logs.

We are investigating and we will get this problem sorted on weekend. We will try and keep downtime as minimal as possible.

Seems like Puma is struggling at the moment, at least when the new server is set up this will all disappear - something to look forward to although I can understand there is some disappointment for the moment.
