Reseller Upgrade

We currently have a Linux Unlimited reseller package and I know it is possible to have multiple reseller accounts but I wondering if VPS hosting would be a better upgrade path.

Can a reseller account be transferred to a VPS package?
Would I still have the all the features available on the reseller package, like creating packages and setting bandwidth limits?

You can have multiple reseller accounts but will probably find a VPS the next logical step when balancing out the benefits and cost.

I'm quite sure that your reseller account can be transferred to a VPS package - I can't see a reason why not.

You would still have all the features available on the reseller package .

Hi Stuart,

We will take care of migrating your accounts from the reseller plan to the VPS plan. You should consider Semi-dedicated plan as the disk space and bandwidth you get with the semi-dedicated server should be sufficient for you till you get 300 - 400 customers.

You will get some additional features with the VPS / Semi-dedicated server which were not available on the reseller plan.

Should I allocate all the disk space and bandwidth to one reseller account, or create a separate reseller account?

Do not allocate all your space and bandwidth to one reseller account.
You will have to distribute your space and bandwidth within your accounts.

If you allocate all your space and bandwidth to only one account, then you can not allocate any space or bandwidth to any other accounts.

Yes, as Tyra said, you should allocated your space and bandwidth to each site as per its requirements or your agreements with your customers .

There's no space and bandwidth limit once you are on a semi-dedicated server. You can assign 1000 GB Space and 10 TB bandwidth to any of your resellers from your WHM. What matters is the actual space that you use from the 60 GB assigned to you.

he can assign 60 GB space to 60 resellers or 1000 shared hosting accounts.

What you assign makes no difference, all that matters is the used space.

We sell 100 platinum plans on a shared server while our shared server has only 500 GB usable space.

Yep. You can term it as Overselling..

Overselling is selling more disk space or bandwidth per hosting account than the actual capacity on the server, with the expectation/presumption that clients will never actually come closer to utilize their allocated full resources. However, this is possible only if overselling is enabled.

Overselling has become a need of all hosting companies, but those who give 1000 GB space and 10TB bandwidth on shared hosting plans have gone in wrong direction and they can't come back now. Calculated overselling is not bad as you can sell twice or thrice of the actual space and bandwidth without a problem.

We had HDD space problem with only one server which had 146 GB SAS drives, but we have stopped using SAS drives for the same reason. SAS drives cost should come down next year and we will consider SAS drives for our shared servers as well as VPS nodes once the cost comes down.

And just to point out on this, if you're nowhere near the limit on the server space/bandwidth wise, don't worry about overselling things. You can work out once you reach the limit how much you want to oversell etc. Currently my Semi-Ded is nowhere near capacity but once it gets there, I'll work out how much overselling etc. I may want to do.

Lol. I was referring to one of my servers only David. As we have different parts of the business on different servers.

I believe a semi-dedicated would only count as 1/6th of a server actually

And what is the phrase - VPS - Virtual Private Server. I didn't say we owned a dedicated server or a node. Mind, at one point we did use a 1/3 of one.
