Default Addon domain in root of Hosting account

Hi,

Is it possible to create an addon domain in my root folder? Each time I create an addon domain within cPanel, it creates a sub-folder beneath public_html.

I want to setup a test environment to try out changes before implementing them on my production website. The easiest way to do this is to copy the public_html folder. This is not so easy if my test environment is within a subfolder.

Thanks,
Ian

Hello Ian,

Addon domain needs to have its separate directory so it wont be possible to add addon domain directly into public_html. If you wish to do so then you need to add it as a parked domain.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'm not familiar with parked domains. How do they work?

parked domain is one which shows itself in the browser but it loads content of your main website ( main domains webpages inside public_html ).

Sorry, I just re-read this post and think you misunderstood me...

I want a seperate directory for my addon domain, but I want it to exist alongside public_html rather than in a subdirectory.

eg. (list of the folders in my root)

.cpanel-datastore
.fantasticodata
.spamassassin
.sqmaildata
.ssh
.trash
etc
mail
public_ftp
public_html
test - I want this to be my addon domain folder
tmp
www

Is this possible?

Sorry for the confusion.

Hello Ian,

It is possible but we have to do this manually from our end. You need to raise a ticket for support team from http://support.eukhost.com and let them know that the you need the addon domain to point to a directory at same level as that of public_html

let me remind you that you may have problems in future due to upgrades as this would be customized setting and it will break after upgrades that may occur in future.

OK Thats great.

As it is only for a test website, I don't mind if it breaks after upgrades.

Thanks for the help.
