AWStats not updating
I've been getting a recurring problem since June with my AWStats not auto updating. As a consequence I have to manually update them myself each day in order to avoid losing my stats. This is a pain because if I go away on holiday and cannot access the Internet then I lose the stats. eUKhost support say that this is a cpanel problem. I am interested to know whether anyone else is getting this problem or are everyone else's AWStats auto updating each day as they should?

What server are you on? Having heard this only now I would imagine from my experience it is a server specific problem. I assume theres nothing on your account (scripts, software etc) that could be interefering with AwStats?

It can't be a server problem because I'm on the Dorset server now but it first occurred when I was on Portland. I can't imagine there's anything on the server interfering with the stats - I've just got the usual website related stuff. eUKhost put a php.ini file on the server to resolve a different problem I was having but that was after the AWStats problem first occurred so I don't think it's that.
eUKhost support have told me that it's a cpanel problem and that cpanel engineers "are working on it" but if that were the case surely everyone else using cpanel would be having the same problem? And one would expect cpanel engineers to have fixed it by now!

Well I can say I am using both Awstats and cPanel and can't see any obvious problem.
What exactly do you mean by "auto updating"? I just go into it, it asks me which months stats I want to view and for which domain and it gives them to me plain and simple.

My understanding is that the stats are supposed to automatically update once per day. (I have to say that at my previous host stats were always shown in real time but that's another issue). The problem is mine don't update automatically. If I go into my stats now they will show the situation as at this morning when I last updated them (which I do by clicking the Update Now button at the top). If I do nothing and go into them tomorrow they will show the situation as at this morning when I last updated them. If I don't visit until next Tuesday they will still show the position at at this morning.
This wouldn't be a problem in itself but for one thing. If I leave my stats until next Tuesday without updating them manually and then try to update them, I will lose all stats from now until then because, in eUKhost's words, "the log file gets rotated".
I would love to be in the position you seem to be in (which is how things worked when I first signed up) where I can go into my stats every few days and see what is going on without running the risk of losing stats for the days when I haven't logged in.

Well, I doubt we're the only ones then!
Is it only a minor problem for you because you don't need to see your stats or because yours are not lost if you don't update for a few days?

Hi Rose,
Our technical staff has setup cron job on the server for your account which will update your stats daily. Please check the stats for next couple of days and let me know how it goes.

Hi,
I do agree that you are not the only one who is having this problem as we have received few more complaints about the stat’s problem. We are trying to find out a solution until cPanel support manages to rectify this problem. We have a ticket open with cPanel, but the solution provided by them isn't a permanent solution.
cPanel engineers are of the opinion that the primary reason of this problem existing is the current rrd tool responsible for data to be stored in time series. The suggestion they are giving right now is to remove the existing rrd file for every domain on the server. Once this is done, the stats will automatically start getting updated. However, this is not the best possible solution as the implementation of this particular fix will only mean that the stats are updated from the day of the rrd files being removed and not the current day and date.
At this time, I am setting a cron job which will automatically update the stats. This cron job will run once everyday to help update the statistics for all your websites. If you still have to put up with any issues, please login to our live chat. We will resolve whatever issues remain.

Hi Ralf
It's not so much the fact that the stats haven't been updating automatically that's the problem. It's the fact that if I'm unable to log in and update them myself each day, I lose them forever. Is there anything that can be done to stop them being overwritten until cpanel fixes the updating problem? This seems to be more of an intermittent problem - sometimes they update fine (manually) if I've missed a few days but more often than not they are lost.
By the way I've been in regular communication with support about this since July, although I don't think I've contacted live chat about this particular problem. I actually find it quicker and easier to up date the stats myself each day than to have to contact support about the problem every time it occurs! Obviously I would prefer not to have to do either.

Just reporting that my stats didn’t update again today. There had been no change since approx 1 pm yesterday so I have just updated them myself by clicking the update now button.

Hmmm, i have got to say that I am baffled. Ralf and Mark posted there replies re: the cron job at around 23:30 last night. It is possible if they set the cron to run around this time that it may not have run for the first time already but you would have to double check with them. If they haven't updated by tommorow morning there is a problem with the cron.

Good news - the stats updated at 12.06 am today. I think the time on my stats may be an hour out so that probably means they updated at 11.06 pm real time, which tallies with the time of the cron job. I'll see if they update again tonight and let you know tomorrow.

I think that should be the end of your problems Rose - as I suspected the cron was set to run later. I've got my fingers crossed for you that that is the end of your problems. Good luck with your site .

Unfortunately the stats have not updated again today. The last update was at 12.06 am on 20 November. I haven't updated them manually today so you can take a look if you wish. I would like to update them again soon as I don't want to lose any.

Hi Rose,
I have asked one of our support staff members to look into this problem. They will get back to you asap.

The stats have been updated this evening (presumably by someone at eUKhost following my earlier post) but I have lost all the stats for 20 November.
