Default Bizarre Email Problem

Hi all,

a customer of mine recently had problems receiving email from one specific company. I have spent hours narrowing down the problem and the result is astonishing.

I discovered the phrase "specialist services" which is in their disclaimer at the end prevents the email from being received on an EUK Host Linux server. I have tried it with two of them and also with an EUK Host Windows server. It is received without problem on the Windows server.

I even turned off Spam Assassin and I still didn't receive the email!

Does anyone have any idea what is happening here?

Kind regards, Ian

1) Domain Name: the Forum will not let me post these so archersigns (.co.uk) and crusaderminiatures (.com). I hope that works.

2) Server Name and IP address: Typhoon - 91.186.0.4 and Nimrod - 87.117.224.115

3) Description of problem: Emails are not being received when the phrase "specialist services" is in the text.

4) Anything you might have done which may have caused the problem: - Nothing as far as I am aware.

5) Anything you have done already, to try and resolve the problem: I switched off Spam Assassin which made no difference. I also sent email to a Windows server and it worked fine.

6) Any additional information you think is relevant: Nothing more I can add

I have just done some more research and narrowed down the problem even further. It only seems to be the word "specialist" that is causing the problem.

If you look in Wikipedia and search for the "Scunthorpe Problem" I think I have found the answer. It seems to be that the word "specialist" includes the string "cialis" and that is why the email is rejected.

Therefore, my question now becomes, why are the emails being blocked even when I switch off Spam Assassin?

cPanel has added exim_filter by default in its latest build. We can disable this filter completely on the server or we can remove Cialis from its rules. Alex is working on your ticket so I will wait for his suggestion.

This is rather interesting and worrying at the same time. I will have to keep a watch on this. Hope you manage to get your problem solved soon .

This has been sorted out. Kevin has replied to the ticket BJT-43387-215. The exim filters have been changed accordingly.
