Default Cgi-bin

Ok i an on a lynux server and use a commercial E:Commerce (EROL )package to upload to my shop website hosting http://www.westbourne-models.com .

Now the software needs to access the Cgi-bin to upload some perl and scripts for the search engine and other functionality .

All was fine till a few weeks ago then suddenly the software would not upload correctly to the cgi-bin it will let the file though but strips all the info out so its just a zero length file
as though somthing is blocking it .
Now if i use say Cute ftp there is no problem to upload the scripts to the cgi file and the other files to the other folders .

What is odd it all worked again for a couple of days last week then stopped on Friday again

i have got a few versions of the program on diff comps on diffrent setups in different locations so i can roughly rule out the soft ware in theory ??

Has anyone got any ideas it's Please.

Your software is using wrong procedure to upload scripts on server and security settings on the server are blocking your software from doing so. You should consider ftp software to upload those scripts as most of the third party applications are blocked on our servers from writing scripts on the server.

I can tell you other way to get through this. you can search for mod_security in this forum to see what suggestion I have given to other customers but it would be good if you avoid to break mod_security rules.

security of your account gets compromised if you break mod_security rules.

Yes and as your website hosting is dealing with money and sensitive personal information I doubt it would attract customers if they knew that you were disabling essential security rules!! Hopefully you might be able to find a better work around by working with support or someone else?

Is there not a way that the boys in the back room can make the website hosting as it was before the move or is that just not possible .

Or is it a case of having to move i really don't want to as iv been with Euk for a good 5 years i gues now and the backup has always been brill

You can simply add mod_security rules to disable mod_security in .htaccess of your account when you make use of your software and later you can remove those rules.

If you need that software all the time then permanently disable mod_security for your account from your .htaccess. If something goes wrong in future then we are here to restore previous day's backup

I suppose that is the best solution for you - means that you can keep on using your software on your website hosting and if the backup from the previous day is always available then that will give you some kind of safeguard!

Maybe a longer term solution is to try and mod your software to comply with the mod_security rules? .
