Default Deleting Folders and Files fromWebsite Hosting

I've been messing about setting up various folders and files in my public HTML area (including a trial Joomla installation), but when I try to delete the folders and files, I can't . There is no error message, they simple won't disappear! I seem to have full read and right permissions on the folders. Can anyone enlighten me on what's happening?

Thanks.

I've tried file manager and my FTP program (FTP Explorer) but without success.

Errrrrm..... Certainly a good one! Only thing I can suggest is to try and rename them (if you can) and then see if you can delete them. If you can't, I would say maybe get in touch with support as you've done all the obvious things I can think of.

OK. I tried a rename, but the file reverts to its original text.

I'm presuming as you checked the folders, you check the rights of the files as well? And it can't be something like read only.... I'm heading towards the conclusion of ask support...

Even if cPanel/FTP is showing the correct chmod, they may not be.

I had a file which was set to a really low permissions value, and cPanel saw it as 755.

The way I resolved the problem was by logging onto SSH, and running this command:

chmod 777 /home/public_html/*user*/*folder*/

After that, I was able to run this command to delete the file:

rm -rfv /home/public_html/*user*/*folder*/

However, I STRONLGY suggest you do NOT run the second command, and first try to delete the folder from cPanel/FTP after changing the permissions, since the second comand is quite dangerous if you type it wrong.

TBH, if your having a problem like this (and your not extreamely technically gifted) I would recommend contacting support (support@eukhost.com) and open a ticket. Or a LiveChat from the main page (http://www.eukhost.com).

Running dangerous commands will only result in more work for support when it all goes wrong!!! (unless you are sure what you are doing).

There are many reasons for files not deleting and stuff like that especially in File Manager.

I recently had problems creating folders through file manager when they didnt appear after the creation and no error message was given - turns out it was just file manager being very slow.

Check back in a couple of hours and see if the files have disappeared - you might find that they have.

Hope that helps .
