Default DNS propogation question:Strange goings on??

Hi,

Quick question regarding domain name propogation.

I know the drill, between 24-72 hrs etc.

I registered and purchased a domain name yesterday at around this time of evening.

So I might be "jumping the gun" slightly and will wait till tomorrow to see what happens.

Whats slightly confusing me is two issues ( actually three, but I'll leave the third till later ).

1. In my MB accounts my domain names all have the "green" light and are saying "on", including the one I registered last night ( I think - Will double check that but not from this PC as I'm at work and cant access my accounts right now ).

If it is saying it is "on" and has a green light, would that not mean that essentially it has propogated already?.

2. A few other of my registered domains I added months ago as "Addon Domains". Again, all are showing "green" and "on".

However today, whilst working on a website for a client, I wanted to upload the files to the domain I had registered last night but obviously could not as yet, so I decided to upload them to another one of my active "Addon Domains".

The files uploaded ok via Cute FTP, and have definately transferred to the server but upon typing the domain name in, it cannot be found.

I tried uploading the files to a couple of different domains that have been "Addons" for a long time and got the same thing.

www.sandyshores.co.uk shows me a screen where it says the following:-

Welcome to Your New Hosting Package
This is your index.html page
Please replace this when you upload your website

The files from the website I was working on are currently uploaded to that Addon Domain.

www.sandyshores.com gives me an error page:-

Error: The requested url could not be retrieved. While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.sandyshores.com/

The following error was encountered:

Connection Failed
The system returned:

(101) Network is unreachableThe remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

I would have thought since both of these domains are already Addon Domains on my hosting package that whatever files I uploaded to them, they would show up?.

The third puzzler I have is that I've noticed in a lot of my Addon Domains within their public_html folders, there is an htaccess file in each of the domains folders which I cant say I ever noticed before?. Were they always there?.

Lastly, normally when I upload files from my system via CuteFTP, the files are transferred, the progress bars fill up at the bottom of the screen and then the files are instantly viewable in the right hand/top pane of CuteFTP in their respective public_html folders. Today, I found that they finished uploading but that nothing showed up until i placed my mouse cursor within the top right pane of CuteFTP and hit the F5/Refresh button?.

Any advice appreciated. I will submit a support ticket but thought I would post here also as I've always had good results and advice from the staff here on the forum as well as via support tickets.

Many thanks in advance.

Gary.

Default Quick question regarding domain name propogation

Hello Gary,

Generally, DNS(domain/nameservers) will take 48 to 72 hrs to propagate world wide.
So if the domain is not yet resolving from correct namesever, then you can check the domain status using the tools available at http://xwhois.com or at http://member.dnsstuff.com/pages/tools.php.

The green light means the package for that account is active under billing . It has nothing to do with domain registration.

The domain sandyshores.co.uk and sandyshores.com are not resolving through our server and not yet added as addon domain under your main domain. You can check the domain status using the tools available at URLs.
I can see a domain sandy-shores.co.uk added as a addon domain and its resolving and working fine from our server.

Its not compulsory that .htaccess should exists under all those addon domain folder until and unless you have frontpage enabled or installed on those domains.

Its seems to be issue with your cute-ftp client you are using to upload the files.

If I am missing any of your point please highlight it, I will get it answered right here.

Just looking at this, the nameservers are not the eUKhost ones.

We have for the .co.uk:
ns.heartinternet.co.uk
ns2.heartinternet.co.uk

and for the .com
nsx.ntx.net
nsc.ntx.net

It seems odd they are like that if they're meant to be using an eUKhost server for the site...

What a dunce I am.

Those ones, Jonathan, are showing up like that because they are not mine....lol.

Only the sandy-shores.co.uk one belongs to me which after checking, is working fine and is in my Addon Domain list.

So I guess I'll just need to wait another day or so for the one I just registered :-

launchlegal-e.com

My client has been on the phone constatly ( it was a bit of a "rush job"/placeholder type site request ) asking me how it's progressing and when it will be online.

I did explain the "up to 72 hours" situation, but I'm not sure he understood fully. In the past, any domains I have registered here have been propogated in much less time than the full 72 hours, so I guess its wishful thinking on my part.

I'm hoping its ready to go by Monday though, fingers crossed.

@Nick......thanks for explaining that, makes things a bit clearer.

Nope, I don't use Frontpage, so in that case I assume its safe to simply delete the htaccess files within each addon domain that has one present?.

My apologies for the mistake I made with the two domain names above. I can access the forums from our work PC's but not my cPanel so I could not double check as to what I had in there!!!.

The .htaccess file could be being used for other things so if it's not causing any harm, I'd leave it there.

And if you don't notice anything propogating, you might want to try restarting the DNS service.

Hello Gary,

If the domain whois reports that the domain is properly resolving using the nameserver assigned to it then you should check it with our support team if the DNS zone for that domain is properly configured on the server or not, provided you are using the nameserver provided by us.

Regarding the domain launchlegal-e.com, its up and resolving fine from our server. You can check the DNS report here:
