Default DNS transfer from 123-reg - something strange has happened!

Hi,

Please can you help? Something very odd has happened to my add-on domain!!

I recently transfered my domain www.annaburton.com from 123-reg to EUKhost.
I put in my two DNS addresses (as sent by EUK host in my welcome email) & registered it as an "add-on" with EUKKhost (all went well).

But something weird has happened, because when I enter www.annaburton.com in my browser, I get somebody else's website hosting (the Jokas Hotel). The browser bar shows www.annaburton.com, but the page being displayed is one for the Jokas hotel.

I have been through the EUKhost Support Desk (twice) and they say that if they enter www.annaburton.com, they get the correct website hosting & everything is fine.

So why do I see something different? I checked out Jokas Hotel on Google & they are offically at www.jokas-hotel.com. A look at WHOIS showed that this address is also an EUKhosted website hosting and that we share our IP address (78.129.128.20).

I have checked & rechecked that I put the DNS in correctly on 123-reg (78.129.128.20 & 78.129.128.21). I have also tried www.annaburton.com from different computers (work, my mates etc)) - but I still get the Jokas.

Does anyone have any advice please?
Many thanks,
Lisa

Site goes to an "Index of /" page for me showing an empty website hosting with no files and no index page.

Try uploading an index page and I will recheck it but it seems to be working fine at my end and I definitely dont get Jokas Hotel.

Hope that helps .

Flesso & David,

Thanks very much for taking the time to look into it. You are seeing the same thing as the Support Desk.

I have been looking at DNS issues on some other forums, and come across a similar sounding problem with EUKhost that someone else had, this one caused by missing Stealth Nameservers.

http://www.eukhost.com/forums/archiv...hp/t-2462.html

I am a novice at this so your help is much appreciated - do you think I might have the same problem as this chap? Or could be I just need to wait a bit longer for full propogation? (it has only been 24 hours).

I have tried the annaburton page at my work & my mate's house and got "Jokas", so I fairly sure it is not just me going mad!

Thanks again,
Lisa

Bingo.

Found ure problem:

FAIL: You have one or more missing (stealth) nameservers. The following nameserver(s) are listed (at your nameservers) as nameservers for your domain, but are not listed at the parent nameservers (therefore, they may or may not get used, depending on whether your DNS servers return them in the authority section for other requests, per RFC2181 5.4.1). You need to make sure that these stealth nameservers are working; if they are not responding, you may have serious problems! The DNS Report will not query these servers, so you need to be very careful that they are working properly.

ns7.eukdns.com.
ns8.eukdns.com.
This is listed as an ERROR because there are some cases where nasty problems can occur (if the TTLs vary from the NS records at the root servers and the NS records point to your own domain, for example).

Note the nameservers above are wrong in the DNS records. - ask eUKHost to resolve this for you.

Could be, but not to sure about the stealth nameservers question - it could be a much more simpler solution.

Most of the time for full propergation you are told between 24 and 48 hours although in reality it normally happens a lot faster. Have you cleared your cache and tried the site?

PS. The website hosting is now giving me a 404 - page not found error .

You didnt change your nameservers but you actually pointed your A record to our server from your 123-reg control panel. You have pointed your domain name to 78.129.128.21 which is not the IP assigned to your domain name. please point your domain name to 78.129.128.20 or change the nameservers of your domain name.

You seem to have chosen wrong option from 123-reg panel. You will see an option to change nameservers and not dns settings.

That is always a good thing to check first - that you have changed the right thing!!!

Don't forget the correct text boxes to change are "Primary nameserver" and "Secondary nameserver"

Default Thankyou!

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

I have been back to 123-reg and changed my settings as described by Mr EUKHost.com.

Yes, you were right, I had changed the A value & not the one I should have (got confused between DNS & Nameserver options...). Now I have sorted that out, hopefully everything will be OK tomorrow. Seems like my Mum was right when she said " a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!".

Just to help out any other novices like me attempting to move domains in the future, please could you fix the broken links in the "Nameserver Change" section of the Support tutorials?

Ta very much for all your help & patience, think I will be OK now.
Lisa

Yep. We are getting all the tutorials redone now as many of the companies listed in our nameserver tutorials section have changed their control panels recently so we need to redo all tutorials.

Good to hear that they are being updated - a lot of others wouldn't bother so I'm glad to see good commitment .
