Default Firefly Status

Firstly I'm sorry if I have posted in the wrong section but last time I came to the forums I would have used the "Network Status" section.


Could we get an update on server firefly please. I'm aware there has been some problems as the last couple of days it's been running slowly.

Now this is clearly something that hasn't been working properly yet there are no updates on the site. I apologise in advance if I've looked in the wrong place.

As much as I've been happy with the efficiency of sending a mail to support it would be nice to see some form of update status here.

As an additional question, can you confirm whether firefly is Linux or windows? I was always under the impression it was Linux but something recently suggests otherwise.

Yes I received the following.

We have had some issues on the server your domain is hosted on. We have made the necessary changes on the server

Which to be honest confirms an issue has been fixed, but it's a little vague!


Would it not be possible to have a forum section giving updates on servers when they are issues?

Eukhost may look at it as bad advertising showing issues but I wouldn't agree. I would look at it as being honest and a good way of keeping clients informed. If there were 50 people running off a server surely it would be better for them to read a service status here rather than support receiving 50 tickets.

I use another provider which alerts you of known problems the moment you log in. I support this as I don't have to tear my site apart wondering if the issue is on my side.

These comments are not intended to be negative because I'm always happy with Eukhost Support. I would be interested on your views though.

Hello Paul,

One of the account on the server was causing a very high load on the server as a result of which the entire server was sluggish, potentially affecting all websites and other services, until the process was killed and the account was suspended.

We can understand your concern that eUKhost didn't email you or post on forums however the account which was causing problem on the server had to be dealt with right away. The number of shared servers, reseller hosting servers and vps nodes we host has increased a lot in last 2 years, which makes it very difficult for our senior system administrators to email customers and explain reason for such issues on our shared and reseller servers.

Our CRO is working on it and We are in the process to launch two mailing lists for our clients.

In the Technical Notifications mailing list, emails will be sent regarding the changes on the server.

1. General Notifications.
2. Technical Notifications.

Wherein the customers who wish to receive Technical Notifications will need to subscribe/register for the technical notification mailing list.

We Apologise for not sending notification but we'll make sure this won't happen again.

Hi Paul,

We had similar Network Monitoring section on our website which worked well till we saw Iframe injection attempt on at least a Dozen of our shared servers. We stopped advertising names and IPs of our servers to prevent such mass injection or hacking/cracking attempts on our servers.

Our knowledge of system security is far better than other hosting providers and we know how to protect our servers. Advertising information of all your servers on your website would be mere suicide.

Does this work? I have tried to sign up and it says I'm already signed up. I click a button for password retrieval and nothing happens.

I'm sorry for the blunt replies... I'm getting really hacked off at the moment. Firefly is dead again.

Oh... no... it's not dead it seems to be DNS zone problems again.

I am going to start a new post as I need some answers.

Decided against a new post.... therefore anyone bored of me can ignore just the one post.


I need to understand something that I couldn't find out after a 2.5 hours online chat.


I have transferred the name servers of two domains into Eukhost. This worked within a couple of hours. (I thought it hasn't but then found out Virgin Media's primary DNS server wasn't replicating but that's another story!!).

Anyway... name servers transferred and everything was fine. 6 days later these two domains stopped responding.

Eventually it was identified that the server was rebooted and the named service was not started properly by default. This apparently meant that the DNS zone, (presumably for firefly), was not synchronising properly.

All my other domains were working though, it was just the two domains I had transferred 6 days before.

First Question:- Is it logical to say that this has happened because the server hasn't been rebooted since I've created these domains. I.e the last time the server was rebooted was more than 6 days ago? Why would this make a difference though, why would a failed named service only affect these two domains?

Second Question:- Would it be investigated why the named service failed on startup? How do the online tech support deal with these type of issues. Do they simply fix the issues so I go away happy or do they fix the problem and investigate or escalate investigation as to why the problem occurred in the first place?

Hello Paul,

The firewall/iptables(Mis-configured) on server was blocking connections on port 53 due to which the named service was not responding to any queries which had caused the websites from loading.
As of now, I am not able to locate the exact reason for firewall failure but will keep you updated.
