The question boils down to - why is it now necessary to turn on 'use passive ftp' when it wasn't required before. Also - this requirement is still not 'fixed'. e.g. last night when my IP access was restored I could get all accounts working fully again, even those where 'passive ftp' is NOT set.

It is quite difficult to explain why you have this problem as no one else has reported such problem. Passive mode is indeed better than normal mode as you never loose any data if the transfer mode is passive but there should be no problem in connecting in normal mode as well. we will need to closely look into this problem as it seems to be there for your account only.

Mark, thanks. I had no intention of creating unnecessary work for you - if noone knows the answer for now then so be it ... I am happy to set the 'passive' option from now on and come back to this issue only of there is a future problem.

Ah right, I think I understand your problem now Chris.

That does indeed seem a strange problem and I can't say that I have encountered in myself at all.
