I'm a n00b: How do I use my public/ftp space?
Never had the time to explore this before, but I want to find out now.
I have a few files, folders etc I want to be able to give folk a link to be able to download from my public_ftp space on my hosting.
I've uploaded a folder there just now, what link do I give out to folk in order for them to download it?.
I'm guessing this is a really basic question and I'm missing something obvious?.

You'll need to enable Anonymous FTP from cPanel first.

Well, to be able to download the file via http protocol you should put the files under public_html folder [being DocumentRoot of website hosting] and to download the files you can use
http://91.186.0.3/~YourCpanelUsername/filename
The folder public_ftp is located outside of DocumentRoot & cannot be accessed by http protocol. It can only be accesses by ftp protocol using Anonymous ftp.

There should be a button in cPanel called "Annonymous FTP"

I've got a feeling Annonymous FTP has been disabled, or the option seemed to vanish around the time of the CPanel upgrades. Checking on a couple website hostings quickly I couldn't spot the button which I seem to recall once being present.

We have disabled Anonymous FTP as this was misused for mass injections on servers. As of now we dont have any plans to enable anonymous FTP again in near future.

Yes it's no longer there for cPanel 11 and seemingly as an overall security measure (according to general consensus on cPanel's forums).
You need to create a user account for FTP — use the video tutorial from the top section of cPanel (it's way down the available list) — it's easy. Then supply those 'folk' you wish to permit access with the login details ...

I still have the anonymous ftp setting available in cPanel but it doesn't work. If it is posssible, it might be worth removing this, it could solve problems for people. As I say though, I don't know if it's possible.

So you're still running on cPanel 10 then?

Nope. cPanel: 11.15.0-RELEASE. The option is there in the main menu under 'Files' and the 'Anonymous FTP' but no matter whether it's ticked or not, it doesn't allow access. It doesn't bother me but you might get some people questioning it if the option is there in cPanel and it doesn't work....

Well in that case I can only tell you that Anonymous FTP is disabled in WHM (on my dedicated server) and each user cPanel Files section has only these options:

I'm on a reseller account which could be where the problem lies. Maybe someone from support wants to look into it? The server is agusta.

Would it make more sense to go round all the servers and disable it from WHM and send an email out to your tech mailing list telling people you're doing it?
