I see there is Shared SSL available with the hosting package i'm on.
Is there a tutorial or some information avaiable on this? Just looking to find out some general info to start me off.
Thankyou.

Hello,
Shared SSL is installed on all our shared/reseller servers. Any client having an account on that server, can access that shared SSL.
One can access shared SSL as per given below
==================
https ://serverip/~username/
==================
Replace serverip with actual server IP on which your account is created. User name will be the cpanel user name which you are using for your control panel.
Please provide us with your domain name with us and I will provide you the exact url on which you can access shared SSL.

Hi David,
Yes, we do provide Shared SSLs on all our packages. We've an SSL certificate installed on the server's hostname & can be accessed in the following way through your scripts:
Quote:
Windows :
https://SERVER-HOSTNAME.eukhost.com/domain_co_uk/
Linux :
https://SERVER-HOSTNAME.eukhost.com/~USERNAME/
Replace SERVER-NAME and USERNAME/domain_co_uk with your server's hostname and cPanel-USERNAME/domain respectively..
|
as your account is hosted on a Linux server, the second URL comes into effect.. Do let us know if you require any further info..

Shared SSL is useful for people who know about the site and server however if you're going to be use if for members of the public, a dedicated SSL is more appropriate. Many people get scared off by SSL certificates which throw up a security error which this certificate will do as I believe it's signed by eUK which isn't a trusted security authority.

Hi Jonathan !
We've started issuing dedicated SSL certifiactes on the hostnames of our shared servers, hence there'd be no more security errors/warnings thrown by the self-signed SSLs... Please refer the following thread for more info : Shared SSL Certificates Added.

Is that on all the shared servers now or just the newly set up ones? I know when I was back on shared hosting, the shared SSL threw up an error as it wasn't signed by a trusted authority... And that was after that thread was created.

Yes, I know that but I'm trying to establish whether all these certificates are signed by a trusted authority or not?

Yes, SSL certificates installed on all our shared servers are signed by Secure Business Services (SBS).

Sorry for slow reply. Been concentrating on some paypal issues for abit instead. I did note and appreciate the response though ty.
So with a server ip of 92.48.108.230 as sent to me when i signed up, that puts me on cambridge server? (judging by a forum search i did)
my user name is eyeeyere
So the url should be
https: //cambridge.eukhost.com/~SECRET/
and would
https: //cambridge.eukhost.com/~SECRET/cpanel take me to a control panel for that section? I assume i can upload files there somehow?
Sorry, as I said, just trying to get starting in this area.
Thank-you
@tyra, my domain is
http: //eye2eyerecruitment.com/

Hi David,
The syntax https://SERVER-HOSTNAME.eukhost.com/~USERNAME/ is mapped to the document root [public_html folder] of your webspace, such that when https://cambridge.eukhost.com/~SECRET/ is viewed through a browser, it'd show up the contents of your website in a secure channel/layer.
eg: If you upload test.php in the public_html of your website via FTP, it'd be seen as https://cambridge.eukhost.com/~SECRET/test.php in a secure way.
You won't be able to access cPanel as mentioned in your earlier post, but by directly using the following syntax:
http://92.48.108.230/cpanel or http://your-domain.com/cpanel

thankyou. And can you confirm the SERVER-NAME for me?
I am trying https://cambridge.eukhost.com/~secret/test4.php
and that's with the "~".
When i do i get this response:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to cambridge.eukhost.com.
SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.
(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)
The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the
received data could not be verified.

Won't that option throw up the SSL certificate error I mentioned previously?

Thank-you again for your responses.
I have entered https://92.48.108.230/~eyeeyere/index.php as stated into my browser, but still recieve an error message. (not that i'd expect it to make a difference, but its the same in different browsers).
I tried https://92.48.108.230/~eyeeyere/index.php and other files, and just https://92.48.108.230/~eyeeyere/ without specifying a file.
The access to cpanel works though. And i can log into that through the link you provided and I can see my files in the file manager there.
https://92.48.108.230/~eyeeyere/index.php should in theory display my index.php file correct? There is nothing special / unusual about this file as far as i'm aware.
(and just out of curiosity but not important, how come cambridge is like this and others aren't? )

Hello,
First of all I would like to clear that, it is not an error in IE. It is a warning message stating that the certificate is not installed on IP address, it is installed on server name/ host name. And if you click on "Yes" for "Do you want to proceed" option then you will never get the same warning message again in Internet Explorer.

hi.
Ah ok. So with firefox the user would have to add an exception as well.
So if i wanted to avoid those warning messages, the only way around this is to get a dedicated SSL?

Hello,
You will need to "add an exception" for Mozilla FireFox web browser to avoid such warning messages.
And yes, to avoid those warning messages, the only way around this is to get a dedicated SSL for your domain name.
You can check our SSL certificates prices and specifications at URL eUKhost - Private SSL | Dedicated SSL Certificates
